Arsenal’s Newest Signing – and about time too!

It has been a tiring and stressful few days for gooners around the world, and i can guarantee that nobody was more delighted than myself when the news broke. Here we have embedded THE first ever interview of Andrey as an Arsenal player.

[audio http://www.upload-mp3.com/pfiles/56840/ArshavinFirstInterview.mp3]

Its slightly quiet so turn your volume up, remember to turn it down after though, i made that mistake and now have a splitting headache. Great…

Andrey or Andrei however you want to spell it, will be a fantastic addition to this side. At first i was thinking we should be targeting a more defensive style player, i still do, but his arrival is a statement i think. Arsenal are still alive.

He will bring fantastic creativity to this team and he has already declared himself a Gooner which is sure to make him popular amongst us fans already, I’m pretty sure that as soon as the Arsenal board saw the people gathering around the Emirates and Highbury House last night they knew they HAD to get this deal through because if it didn’t work, people would really start turning against them.

As it turns out Gazidis, Friar and Wenger (who was involved at every step I’m told), have got the most fantastic deal for a player that is the sixth best in the world, we pushed Zenit into a corner, we called their bluff and we got it dead right. Yes, its more than turbulent for us fans but what a fantastic result we have.

At 27 Arshavin is set to approach his peak and whilst by his own admission he is not match fit he seems a player that works, is humble and wants to fight for the club and wants the fans trust, ‘trust in me, trust in Arsenal’.

Today he was called the ‘Russian Messi’, but whilst i believe in supporting your players you can’t levy too much expectation on their shoulders and we should give him his time for he and his family to adapt to their new country. I for one, just can’t wait to see him marauding down the wings, but where he is going to play will be an area up for debate. Will it effect Theo Walcott’s chances of getting starts? Will we play with a five man midfield? Where will our deepest lying midfielder be?

There is no doubt that Wenger will keep Denilson or Song in central midfield, we need a player like that there no arguments. People suggest we play Arshavin, Fabregas, Nasri, Walcott across midfield but im sorry, that is suicide.

That is why this move could mean Theo Walcott is employed more as a striker from now on. Its far to early to be debating this, but you must admit, it really is a nice thing to be debating about!

In my view Arshavin traveling to England off his own back, hiring the private jet and paying for it himself signaled his desire to come and play for us, Zenit were truly despicable pimping him out to other clubs on Monday before the deadline and it really does show them up for the money grabbing, abusing, moral-less club they are. It can be pretty much written in stone that another English club will not be negotiating with them again in a hurry and players thinking of going there might think twice too now.

I learned of the deal just before it was announced, i was given a tip off but i delayed just those few important minutes, and by the time i had waited a few minutes and got myself a cup of tea, it was up on Arsenal.com.

I jumped with joy and covered myself in hot tea. I couldn’t care less, we have our man.

It seems that sky sports were expecting a deal two days ago going by this,

sjgNote – the date reads Monday 2nd Feburary.

Sky Sports have hardly covered themselves in credibility with this ongoing transfer but credit where credit is due, they got there in the end and got us the important stories. I think we owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Arsenal Supporters Trust who allayed many Gooners’ fears when Sky Sports News broke the story that Arshavin was on his way back to Russia.

I will not even start to indulge in the expletive ridden tirades i let rip when that happened.

Arsene Wenger has again spoken of how talented this man is and he admits he has been following his progress for a long time now,

“We are delighted to have signed Andrey Arshavin, he is a player I have admired for a long time. He is a versatile player with great experience, who will add real quality to our squad.Andrey is an exciting impact player with a huge amount of ability and has been an influential force with both Zenit St Petersburg and the Russian national team in recent seasons.”

I am informed that we have been tracking him for about three years now, he is somewhat of a late developer but as his game does not seem to be reliant on pace, he could be a brilliant player long into his thirties.

Wenger and Arshavin first met at Euro 2008, and as you will have probably have found out by listening to the upload of his exclusive interview Wenger was the key again in this deal. Players come to play under him, players are attracted by the proposition of playing for him. I was going to say it was a Hugh Hefner situation but it actually isn’t and it would inspire a raft of comments. Let him have the slags.

Right, enjoy the podcast/broadcast/interview whatver you want to call it.

Til Tomorrow – for the very last time maybe – Arshfans.

ARSHAVIN SIGNED ON LONG TERM DEAL: OFFICIAL 19

Posted on February 03, 2009 by Martin @ thegoonblog.com

aasigns

Its all over guys. Its official, we have one of the worlds best players:

“Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Russian international midfielder, Andrey Arshavin has joined the Gunners from Zenit St. Petersburg on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.”

Arshavin has said,

“Thank You, I’m Happy To Be In Arsenal.. It’s My Dream”

And in a plea to Arsenal fans;

“My Message To Arsenal Fans? Trust In Me, Trust In Arsenal”

We will Andrey, it takes seeing him in that picture to believe. Arsenal have not made a signing of this magnitude since Dennis Bergkamp, a fraction of his success at the club would be appreciated by Arsenal fans at the moment.

A fantastic deal for Arsenal, by god we sailed close to the wind but finally we have our man, he will get a great reception for sure when he walks out onto the pitch.

More sure to come soon.

Day 2: Arshavin – A Go Round 25

Posted on February 03, 2009 by Martin @ thegoonblog.com

1443: Confusion reigns at the moment with Sport.RU claiming the deal is in doubt after talking to the FA.

“Yes, it’s true, the transfer is in doubt. There is a chance it will take us 2-3 days. The odds are 50/50. If the transfer is declared invalid, Arshavin will be returned to Zenit. We can’t rule this out. I don’t think that would be a severe ruling: both clubs had a lot of time to complete it during the window.”

Not sure on its reliability and MY gut feelings are that they are duff quotes.

Lets wait and see.

__________

1518 - SSN went live to the Emirates, there are 40 pages of the document to go through, explaining the long, long delay. Hopefully this is the only reason.

Fingers crossed.

________

1618: THE QUOTES ARE FAKE. source. Thanks Gunnerblog my suspicions were confirmed.

_____________

Arsenal are selling ‘Arshavin 23#’ shirts, as seen on SSN. Announcement rumoured for 7:30.

FA Will Rubber Stamp Deal – Arsh Summary 4

Posted on February 03, 2009 by Martin @ thegoonblog.com

Well for some reason, the post i took fourty minutes to write has fucking disappeared! I really cant write it out all again so i will put it in bullet point form.

  • For the summary visit here, i did a ticker with all the latest developments on here.
  • Basically the whole ‘Arshavin going home’ thing was a trick by Dennis Lachter to get rid of the media for a short time. Hence the 200% deal off texts.
  • The FA will let the deal through as all the paperwork was submitted by 4:30. The FA have confirmed this and my source has.
  • Andrei is pretty much an Arsenal player, the negotiations that went on until about 8:30 were regarding Arshavin’s personal payment to Zenit regarding his signing on fee at his last contract signing, they wanted 50% back.
  • He will earn 70K a week with us
  • Signed a three and a half year deal so im told

That is it in brief. I am very sorry for that last post to have disappeared, im actually fuming.

I will try and get the news up here when it breaks, it will go through, id put a lot of money on it. Lachter has just text someone saying;

‘Arshavin is a gooner’

Says it all.

I hope i have some 30ft snowdrift against my door in the morning, i really want to sleep for about 24 hours, ive been up about 20 hours.

My bet is that it will start raining and all this snow will turn to that ghastly black mooshy shitty stuff that gets your shoes, socks, feet, trousers and just about anything wet and all horrible.

Yes, that would be rather shit…

Id just like to thank all the people that made today so good on the blog, there were tens of thousands of visits and thankyou to each and every one of you. I hope you become regular readers.

Until the update – for the last time maybe – Arshfans

Arshavin Deal Done – Just The Wages Now 7

Posted on January 26, 2009 by Martin @ thegoonblog.com

Oh for Jesus Sake.

We have finally agreed a fee.

And Arshavin who has been, by his own admission, praying for a move to Arsenal.

So why go and put the whole bloody move in jeapourdy? It has taken weeks to get to an agreement on price and he is having second thoughts over wages, its not like we are offering him 10 grand a year, we are offering him £80,000 a week! But he wants £100,000 a week, its crazy, ludicrous and quite frankly he can piss right off. Does he not know the state the current financial climate is in?

Zenit have said on their website,

“The fundamental understanding over the transfer of the player is achieved between the clubs,” read the statement. “At the moment the basic obstacle in realisation of the transaction is Andrei Arshavin’s personal requirements.”

AAAARRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

When is this all going to end!

*Sobs into coffee*

I really am sick to the back teeth of this.

Right, onto Nacer Barazite who i feel has a massive future at Arsenal Football Club. For starters he has a crazy amount of technical ability and whilst he has struggled at times on loan at Derby he has saved games for the side. It seems he is looking to follow Jay Simpson’s path by being in the cup teams next season, he said:

“I am looking forward to the rest of the season. I wanted to stay because I was really happy here and playing games. I feel I have still got a lot to learn here. Hopefully, I can keep learning and playing well and then go back to Arsenal at the end of the season and take my chances over there”

I have seen him on a couple of occasions and i think he is a hell of a talent, he always stood out for the reserves and hopefully he can turn all this potential into class.

In some great news Thomas Rosicky has returned to training, its fantastic news but he will take ages to get back to full fitness and thats providing he doesn’t pick up any niggling injuries that is in reality, very very likely after being on the sidelines for a year. His agent said:

“It is a huge and positive advance in his situation as well as a hope that Tomas’ uneasy injury spell will end,”

Lets hope he does return, i have had my doubts but hopefully he can prove us wrong.

As you can guess most of the news at the moment is regarding our Russian Owl Faced friend and we will bring you news of the ongoing saga as we find it.

Now, if you have a bit of time on your hands why not go and listen to the YoungGuns podcast?

Right sorry for the shit blog today. I really am, til tomorrow.

Arshavin Deal Finally Done 16

Posted on January 25, 2009 by Martin @ thegoonblog.com

Sorry, i really could not resist.

Advocaat wants the deal done, Arsenal want the deal done but it seems Zenit want to take their time. They issued a deadline of last night but it seems they have broken their own curfew as the saying goes.

I really am sick to the back teeth of the Arsh-a-go-round, the sooner a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ is said the better? Maybe Noel Edmonds could be brought in to sort this deal out?

Advocaat is running out of patience, saying here

“I hope that, with regard to Arshavin we will have finally taken some action. The whole story takes too long – It is time to give a final answer, clearly say – yes or no. I hope that the club would say. It would be better for Andrey, and for the team.”

I think it would be better for everyone.

Onto Cardiff tomorrow and i think we will win this one and rest a few key players. Wenger hinted that Gibbs will start at left back,

“Maybe Gibbs [will play at left back],”

And with Gallas in contention we could see either Toure or Djourou rested. I would also not be supised to see Denilson rested as he has made the most appearances this season and the more tired he gets the greater chance he has of picking up a knock.

Bendtner will probably start up front with Van Persie getting a rest because, quite frankly if he is injured, we are fucked.

Arsene has been generous of Aaron Ramsey’s praise recently, and Friday he again spoke of the youngsters talent,

“I’m very happy with Aaron and I believe he will be a very important player for the Club. He is ahead of schedule and I’m impressed by what he has done by now but he is only 18.”

Whilst he also pointed out, he won’t let sentiment interfere with his selection,

“We go there to qualify, the most important thing is that the team goes out on Sunday and plays to win the game.

“I love Aaron Ramsey and I believe he will be a great player for Arsenal Football Club but we don’t go there for a testimonial.”

I think he will get some part to play in the game, hopefully he can grab a goal.

The NOTW is again chugging out articles printed months ago, this one about Robin Van Persie’s contract renewal, he will get a contract, and probably a big pay rise on his 65,000 a week. God, what do they do with all their money?

We have also been linked to Micah Richards, even if this is true its a bad bad move. He is not a patch on the player of two seasons, or even a season ago. He has loads of potential but he is regressing rather than progressing at the moment.

On the line up, im expecting something along the lines of this;

Fabianski, Sagna, Toure, Djourou, Gibbs, Nasri, Song, Diaby, Eboue, Bendtner, Adebayor

Back to Owly-Russian and Gooner Talk says that he is due to arrive within two days, i think its all guess work at the moment. The Russian press come up with a story, the English regurgitate it with a few amendments and its just one big game of Chinese Russian whispers.

Right, im sadly going to miss the game i think, i will do my utmost to get some highlights down my throat for my next post.

Til Then Arshfans.
