Another game and another defeat, a common running theme running from February/March time.
Over the past few years we have endured many peaks and troughs, this one though is very worrying indeed. There have been questions asked of Wenger from sections of the support for a couple of years now, longer in some cases, but right now they are being asked genuinely and seriously – his sacking is being touted as one of the main cures for this horrible run we are currently on.
For many reasons I can’t see him being sacked; first of all he is far too valuable to the board, he is still in credit with them and it would be a little silly to pay him off and send him on his way with the money that he has saved them himself wouldn’t it? Sacking Wenger would also be the best way of making sure that we miss out on the top four come the end of the season. The time isn’t right.
From the outside it looks like he has just lost the players, lost their belief, trust and their faith in his philosophy. The state we are in is a culmination of many factors, one of them being the neglect he has given the defence over the past four years, time after time he has managed to wing it in this respect, he can do that no more.
How can he blame his players for not being good enough when he is the man who targeted them and brought them to the club? I don’t mean to say I told you so but just how many times have I said it’s less an issue of personnel than the system used, it needs a complete overhaul from a fresh face.
The question is, will Arsene do that? Will he swallow his pride, admit failure and go for another approach? He probably has to, he is fast running out of cards to play – a few years ago he held all the cards, right now even the very minimum guarantee under Arsene’s reign is looking in some quite substantial jeopardy.
Gut feeling says that this will be Arsene Wenger’s final season at Arsenal, it feels like the end of an era – tonight we face Shrewsbury in the Carling Cup and anything but a good win will be met with more depression and uproar, defeat is unthinkable. A win would be a start though, you can only have so many fresh starts but a win is a win is a win, nobody can take that away from you – no referees, not UEFA, and what we need is wins and plenty of them. Fast.

Arsenal News 24/7

There is fuck all wrong with the defenders we have. its the lack of defensive training and preperation that is the proplem. When Martin Keown was allowed to run training sessions at Arsenal when he was taking his UEFA batches we went on a record braking run in the CL keeping 10 consecetive clean sheets. Even Senderos was fantastic then. Keown left and we became shit again. He trained them his own way and not according to the tipy tapy gospel and thats proplebly why Wenger was glad to be rid of him once he got his batches. Bringing in new coaches, new players or new formations will not help at all until our training regime is totally overhauled. And that will not happen while Wenger is there to micromanage every aspect of our training sessions.
Wenger may not be broken, but the club is, and its these deluded imbeciles that are running it, that have broken it
We need wenger to start adjusting tactics when needed…our team always lines up the same way regardless of opposition & i think thats a mistake!! His faith is some of the players(gibbs) is just not warranted, when they prove game after game that they are not ready for the top flight!! We need some fresh blood
If this is Wengers final season then it is the last season for a very long time that Arsenal will be contenders, simple as that. We’re not a big club financially at all and the only reason we get so many good quality young players choosing Arsenal over teams like United and City is because of Wenger.
No trophies, low wages and no Wenger means players won’t want to come to Arsenal. I’m sick to death of people saying we have the money to buy players, it doesn’t work like FIFA12 you have to be a team the player wants to play for either for money or glory. We can give 50 million to Lille tomorrow but if City decide they want Hazard, their higher wages and recent FA cup victory will make them far more appealing.
Wenger can turn this around and he will turn this around. How the hell do people expect a team with so many new players not to mess up, this is technically their pre-season.
People can cry and moan all they want about signings we can’t change that now, people can cry and moan about Wenger being a failure but we all know what would happen if he were to leave tomorrow.
Stop moaning, stop complaining and give our low in confidence team the support they need from us to salvage our season.
Totally agree, far from sacking Wenger, i would actually promote him. Instead of him being just a Manager i would make him Technical Director of Football. Part of his job would be to revolutionise the coaching set up at Arsenal from Top to bottom. A new Manager and a new head coach would be required plus the use of specialist coaches for all eleven positions. A Goalkeeping coach, A Full Back Coach, A Centre Back Coach, A defensive Midfield coach, an attacking midfield coach, a striker coach and a winger coach. Thisay seem a lot but this team of coaches would run both first team and reserves and help out with the u18s as well.
BC – absolutely not. Once Wenger leaves or is relieved of his current role he should nothing more to do with the club. It would never work having him around the club with a new manager in charge.
I also agree this is his last year whether he quits or is sacked at the end of the season. I think the fan noise will continue to increase throughout the season and his position will be untenable.
I’m sure there will be the odd glimmer that keeps the fan quiet for a period of time, but it won’t last, we are not consistent enough and I think a fresh approach with the current crop of players will serve us well.
Ancelotti would spend the £50m left over and cut more of the deadwood out Rosicky, Arshavin etc. to suplement this. He’d build a title winning side that plays with style and yet is solid. The year he won the double Chelsea scored 100 goals in the league.
Get him in and he will also select the correct no 2 in someone like Keown
BC, put down the video game, son.
Ancelotti? Really? God but you people are silly. Sacking AW would be foolish. Anyone who says that is a johnny come lately. Period.
So, Wenger should carry on even when his ship is sinking? He is failing to sort our problems out and the problems have been there for a while.
OK, suppose it is entirely the board’s fault, what is his stand? Talking of his personal interests, do they lean towards the fans’ or towards the board’s? Arsenal has never required world record signing anyway.
If Wenger is happy to serve the board rather than the fans whom I think should come first, then let him enjoy his board’s support (for serving their greed well) but ours.
The board are just using Wenger’s abilities for their own interest. It is up to Wenger to tell them that he also has the interest of the fans at heart because this is a guy who would easily be employed by other clubs. BUT he is happy to let himself be a second best team’s manager….
goonertank with what money do you propose Ancelotti do all this supposed amazing transfer business with?
You really think having 50 million bucks to spend means you’ll get big name players?
What about our 110,000 a week wage cap, would schneider, Kaka, or any other top player you can name come to a team who will only pay them 55,000 after tax? When United, City, Chelsea etc. can pay substantially more?
Do you think Hazard, martin, goatse or any other player who would get a wage increase by joining us will come to Arsenal when we haven’t won anything in 6 years? Especially when we can be outbid on the fee by PSG and that crazy Russian club now too?
You make no sense at all.
You see the only two clubs in the world that wouldn’t employ Wenger if he ever left are Barcelona and United, spurs wouldn’t get him for obvious reasons.
If Wenger ever became available he would be snapped up in an instant and he would run amok across europe if given the right resources, something which Arsenal haven’t been able to do. Give Wenger unlimited resources in terms of transfer funds and wages and see what happens.
It would be the biggest mistake our club has ever made letting him go. Not even Ferguson could work miracles with the paltry funds given to Wenger over the past few years.
What utter rubbish! Arsenal not a big club. Not one of the 5 richest clubs in the world. You’re talking delusional crap. How do you mean ‘How the hell do people expect a team with so many new players not to mess up, this is technically their pre-season’? Who’s fault is that? One person and person alone. Since David Dein left Arsenal have continually made a huge mess of signing players. Look at all the players they might have had. Mata? Phil Jones for another 2m. Schwarzer for another mill.
The only reason that players won’t come now is because the decline of Arsenal that has been going on for five years is now evident to all. The same reason that Cesc and Nasri left. Arsenal is now no longer a force. Financially yes but not playing wise. I can promise you that Hazard saw the Manure result and said no thanks.
And a result of this Wenger has endangered massively Arsenal’s status as a big club. What if the crowds stop coming to the Emirates. What about when there’s no Champion’s League on offer. Who’s going to come Arsenal then?
There’s a dozen managers out there who could come in and do a better job. Managers who will work with what they have, not try and make players fit a theoretical template. Managers who might recognize that Van Persie is half again the great player he is just now, when played in the hole behind a real striker. Someone who might have worked out that Scott Parker was the ideal fit for Arsenal, which incidentally would have meant that there wouldn’t be a month in January when there will be NO defensive midfielders at the club. Someone who can actually recognize a good central defender when they see them.
I doubt that any club would want Wenger now. They all know now that he is technically inept, has no plan B, does not know how to buy and sell, and pays high wages to the wrong players.
Arsenal is a sinking ship. Get rid of him ASAP and at the least the ship will be steadied.
I had to write something with regard to this and some of the comments so here goes…
When people keep mentioning that we have limited funds to pay par wages and transfer fees, wasn’t the whole point of moving to the emirates so that we could compete with the manure and barca’s of this world. If I recollect it was the selling point of moving from Highbury and this years huge season ticket hikes? Ok the FFP will be coming in within the next ten years (seems like it) but this does not stop the likes of the northern monkeys and Chelski from spending top dollar for top dollar players.
If we competed at least on the salary structure you would of still seen Cashley and Cashri still fulfilling their potential in the sacred red and white.
Also, where in gawds name has all the money disappeared to for the massive sales? I can tell you it has not been re-invested into the team?
So when IG says things like “we are the future of global football, financially” it will be no good to promote a model that is languishing midtable or dare I say it, in the championship?
He is not fooling no one.
If we look at the results at the end of last season and the beginning of this year. It is shockingly relegation form. So how far do we need for this season to go before it becomes a crisis? Now I am not one to panic, but looking at the dejection and void of ideas from the bench on Saturday, I can honestly say that I am bricking it for the remainder of this year.
Somebody has to be answerable, the board, management, coaches, physios or players. Somebody has to come out and say “I’m sorry but this team is shit and has been for the last seven years, since we lost the spine of the invincibles. And yeah, we couldn’t be bothered to replace them because we squandered the cash with Nike for shit kits and the supposed Arsenalisation of the Emirates. So we got a nice clock!? But hey ho, we are gonna ask the punters for more money so we can get Mr Hill-Wood a solid gold crutch, and put the rest in SKE american interests!”
Now I do not want AW sacked as I appreciate what he has done to put us on the map. But until the club turn around and say we WILL sort this out then I am afraid the media propaganda will prevail and turn the supporters away from the management and harshly the club.
So stop feeding us crap and making up issues like the club has no money but when the FFP comes into force we will be able to compete. There will be no point as we will not be competitive.
Does the phrase “Rats and sinking ship” come to mind.
Anyway this Park better be good because we are all hoping he is our saviour, sounds familiar with Verminator and Wilshire.
Come on you reds…
Bongo – I’m not saying sack him, just that I think the train has already left the station that will lead to a sequence of events that will see him no longer at the club next season.
I would love him to stay and turn it around. I really would.
My point is the squad still looks short in certain areas, whether it be to personnle or tactics who knows.
What is clear though is that we have £50m in the bank that went unused. I imagine the same will happen again in Jan – No signings.
And as for the wage bill we have of £110m+ well when you have hardly any differentiation between highest earner and lowest earner of course you have to have a cap. Why are we paying Almunia, Denislon, Bendtner, eboue (prev), Diaby, vela, rosicky etc etc £50k+ a week???
The wage structure can be altered so that the youth prospects that come from academy plus the talents we buy from elsewhere do not get paid £30k a week at 19, and when they are given a new deal at 21 instantly go to £40k or £50k a week.
This is precisely what has hindered us when someone wants a new deal of market rate £100k+ per week.
This is wengers wage structure by the way, as he runs the club not the board.
