Jacks return – internationals – boredom

International weeks are never welcome – however, this international break has come at a rather helpful time for Arsenal. If Arsene can pull himself away from his commentary duties on French TV and get back on the training ground trying to sort out his new-look squad, we could emerge from an international break a much more formidable team for once.

Robin van Persie netted four against San Marino, Park scored three against Lebanon and Ramsey scored against Montenegro – goals are welcome in any shape or form against any opposition. Even better is the news that they all emerged unscathed. We are 50% along the way to what would nearly be a fully fit squad for next weekends game against Swansea.

Jack Wilshere has returned to light training, they will be monitoring his fitness like hawks and trying to ensure that he suffers no reaction – having him back in the middle of the park would be a massive boost, his attitude, class and drive in midfield is much needed. His ability to burst away from a player is an absolute joy to watch.

It is true that our season now starts against Swansea, its a great chance to get three points under our belts and start the fight-back; that is what we have to do: fight. Look at United and City… yes, they have better squads than us, they have strengthened and we have weakened – if we fight we can beat them though, it sounds ridiculous after getting pounded 8-2 but we can beat them, and the players must believe that when we face them.

Our dip has come early enough in the season to rectify the situation, we have only played three games and whilst we may have conceded a lot of goals and been humiliated by the champions, we still have 35 games to catch up.

It goes without saying that the summer was dreadful, it must be put behind us now, we have to move on and get on with our season. The squad is significantly stronger than it was this time last week, we have games against Swansea, Blackburn, Bolton and Spurs coming up in the league, two at home and two away – we also play Shrewsbury, Dortmund and Olympiakos in that time, they are all winnable games.

For now though, lets hope the players emerge from the next round of internationals unscathed.
