Wenger and van Persie reported argument

Today the Daily Star are running a story detailing a bit of a bust-up between new captain Robin van Persie and Arsene Wenger regarding the current standard of the squad and the lack of purchases this summer.

Robin, who recently took on the agent of Clichy, Nasri and Cesc in Darren Dein, is no stranger to getting under the nose of the boss. Usually when stories like this appear in the press they are disregarded pretty quickly by fans as nuisance making, however I believe that the story has a fair bit of truth to it. It is also worth noting that the Daily Star is the chosen mouthpiece of Peter Hill-Wood.

Last Autumn Robin van Persie was giving an almighty bollocking by Wenger for some comments he made to the press about Afellay and van der Vaart. I wrote at the time:

My source claims that Arsene Wenger and Robin van Persie fell out over two issues; his comments about Ibrahim Affelay and Rafa van der Vaart, and his current level of fitness. Robin was ordered to get fitter by the manager and his negligible amount of game-time since his return from an ankle injury backs this up somewhat, it is important to note that this took place before the Carling Cup tie on Tuesday and he has since been working with a fitness specialist at the training ground along with Carlos Vela – that information emerged after the false claims that van Persie had been spotted with protective boot on his foot.

More here…

It is good that a member of the squad – and the captain at that – is speaking out to Wenger and challenging him, seeing as he gets very little in the way of opposing views in his backroom staff.

The contract situation with Robin van Persie is getting a little precarious also, with an agent that has done a fantastic job at getting players moves away from the club he is probably the last person we need in our captains ear right now. It is well known that van Persie holds himself in very high esteem, lets hope that he is a lot happier than he is right now at the end of the transfer window.
