Arsenal have hi-jacked Lille’s deal to sign Monaco striker Park Chu-Young.
Park was due to undergo the second part of a medical with Lille after completing the first part yesterday, the thing is during that time Arsenal seem to have had a bid accepted by Monaco and they in turn granted Wenger permission to speak to the player.
The player is now in London and set to undergo a medical, as BBC Sport report.
Park shouldn’t cost a great deal of money at all, Le-Equippe claim that it could be as low as €3m with an added €2m in add-ons, the player wages were speculated to be at about €47,000 a week.
It is a surprise, there has been no big build up or long-running saga and shows that Arsenal are serious about getting their business done – a bargain is a bargain and lets hope that this one is more along the lines of a Bacary Sagna type rather than the Squillaci type bargain.
Quite honestly I don’t have much knowledge of this player at all, the most important question is: Can he play?

Terrific signing. I have been following French football for years and this player is miles better than Park of Man Utd. Great touch, great timing and very good passer. Basically another Nasri, but certainly not a top finisher. Gervinio will now play upfront with Park on the wing.

Nah…he is not that bad. He’s got a lot of pace and decent shooting (good spot kicker). I think he scored 13 out of 33 games last years (some from the pen). For his size, he is tougher than Park Ji-Sung at ManUtd. He dribbles much better than Park Ji-Sung as well.

Typical Wenger signing, as you said. Reminds me of the sudden signing of Eduardo in 2007 – no build-up and then, boom!, he was an Arsenal player. Park is a pretty decent player. He’s been one of the best strikers in the French league for the last two seasons. I would definitely love to see him in Gunners’ uniform.

The player is decent and he’s only expected to compete with Chamakh to back-up RVP. Its just the lack of ambition that is worrying. Park’s transfer fee is basically the difference between Arsenal’s and Chelsea’s bids for Mata. Its penny-wise, pound-foolish. While I didn’t think we’d replace Cesc or Nasri a more expensive player, but I thought we might with Bendtner, but clearly that’s not the case. Also, as Park’s more of second-striker and not a targetman, he makes the squad that much smaller with less variety in our attack.
