Forgive me for being glad the season is over but every game was like pouring salt into a weeping flesh wound. It wasn’t getting any better and we are a damn sight fortunate it didn’t get any worse. The indications I got a few weeks ago that the summer will be a lively one seem to be correct, and today the Finnish FA have pretty much confirmed that we have all but completed the signing of Charlton full-back Carl Jenkinson.
And so everything is starting to kick off. Yesterday we had the comments from the father of Nicklas Bendtner claiming that he is ’100% open’ to a move away from Arsenal which is very understandable considering Wenger’s mismanagement of the player, following him seem to be Denilson and Mark Randall who are seeking regular football. It is pretty fair to say that these players can expect a quite considerable drop in the standard of club they they will end up joining though interest in Nicklas Bendtner is substantial – I hear there are at least three clubs monitoring his situation closely, two of those being German clubs.
Ever since November/December I have heard that he is intent on leaving the club, and having only been given three Premier League starts this season it is easy to understand why. He is not a wide player, he is a striker, and believe it or not he has qualities we need in our squad. Hopefully we get a sizable fee for him but his wages may mean a smaller fee is needed – much like with the Eduardo sale last summer.
Arsenal have been listening to offers for Bendtner since last year, though were reluctant to weaken the squad in January due to competing on four fronts. A loan request was turned down and a sizable bid was rejected at the end of January. Bendtner made some comments to the press last November and from there-on in his relationship was apparently never the same with the boss. Maybe it was the straw that broke the camels back.
The sun is out, the summer is here, now let’s spend some of that cash Arsene.

Don’t really care if he’s good enough for us or not, if a player isn’t happy and doesn’t want to stay, he simply must go. The squad has been far too stale for a few years now and shifting guys like Bendtner, Vela and Denilson is an excellent start. Getting rid of Cesc, Clichy, Bendtner, Denilson, Almunia, Rosicky, Squillaci and others could raise ~70m quid, which is more than enough to rebuild this squad.
We could promote guys like Lansbury, Frimpong, and Bartley and buy Sakho, Inler and Aguero, and I think our squad would be stronger as a result. Obviously its wishful thinking, but the money would be there to execute such a renewal.
Chesney, Sagna, Djourou, Sakho, Vermaelen, Inler, Wilshere, Nasri, Walcott, Aguero, van Persie
Subs: Song, Chamakh, Arshavin, Lansbury, Ramsey, Frimpong, Eboue, Bartley, Koscielny, Gibbs, Botelho, Henderson, Jenkinson, Fabianski, Diaby
Ricky Alvarez is one of our first signings as well apprently.
Aguero has massive buy out clause and is more of Man City, Chelsea or Real Madrid type signing. Rather than Arsenal, Man Utd or AC Milan type signing
Sakho maybe staying in France, that’s just his latest comments. I reckon more Samba or Cahill will be coming in.
Inler would be more in our price range but would still love to see Scott Parker sign as well as Inler. It would remind me a bit like when David Platt signed for Arsenal.
We do need another two striker other than RVP that can provide a goal threat and Chamakh gives us what Bendtner provided but better at it than Bendtner.
Things appear to be hotting up on the transfer front, quite early this year.
At long last a re-building of the squad seems likely.
Can’t follow the Jenkinson/Finnish FA connection, though. Can anyone help?
Jenkinson represents Finland..
i dont really think that Kun Aguero is suitable in EPL, he is too light weight, just like i never think that L. Messi is suitable in EPL. Yeah, it’s a fact that both of them are great, with Messi being one of the greatest player ever. However, the football styles in La Liga and EPL are of a huge difference, in EPL, body combat is required at a higher level. Anyway, i do hope that we can buy either Gervinho or Benzema, both of them are strong, powerful, aggressive and prolific!
As for the DM, i think S. Parker is quite a good buy as i never think that Inler would come cheap.
Hey Martin, great blog as usual….
Any news on this ricky alvarez guy, are we signing him or not?
And would love this Scott Parker rumour to arsenal to be true, any news on this either?
thanks
@NKS
Messi gets the crap kicked out of him more than any premiership player. He’d do fine here.
kudos to u all gunners fans and supporters i thought aguero and parker will be perfect signing for arsenal gunnerps till eternity.
Scott Dann or Rodger Johnson would be great additions. Cheap and available now.
Ok fine, Samba instead of Sakho. I guess what I’m getting to is that adding some physicality and size to the team is not beyond us. Inler would in my view be preferable to Parker due to being a few inches taller and having sustained European experience. As for the forward situation, I would prefer Aguero to Benzema, especially if we stick with 4-3-3. And I think Aguero could adapt to England. He’s a robust little f*cker, like Tevez. And in any case, he could be saved for games against “footballing” sides. No need to play him away at Blackburn or Stoke, go with Chamakh and RvP instead.
anyone got any info on scott parker or any other transfers?
i lov any signing we make, clincy sud take rosicky, squid wit him too
Let’s not mess about, if we are seriously thinking getting a 19 year old will help us towards titles, we are going in the same direction since 2006 aka to no where!
Man Utd got their twins years ago whilst still having O’Shea-Brown-Neville to cover the right, and Heinze-Evra-O’Shea on the left, all proven champions.
This doesn’t count as a tranfer for me, and this Alvarez signing either, why are we going for free transfers anyway? We pay lots to attend the stadium, where is the money going?
The players we should target, between the age of 25-30 for outfield players and 29+ for the GK. Anyone else below that i.e. Ryo, Jenkins, Randall, Lansbury, Frimpong will be there to make us hope, but we will win 0 trophies in 2012,GUARANTEED.
Man Utd are getting the likes of Young/Sneijder, proven player in our league or a guy who has won 3 league titles in 3 countries, we get kids. Guess who will know how to win trophies?
if i can get cahill and samba in the center move TV to the left back position with a tall flexible striker like gervinho, i think we will do just fine, maybe jerelka instead of samba, so we can get some calls to go our way too, add some english players please
As a Charlton supporter, i feel qualified to tell you Jenkinson is a good signing for you. He may not be quite ready yet for Arsenal’s first team but the lad’s a good ‘un.
If you really want to move on next season, Arsene should make Scott Parker his number one target. He may be thirty (or nearly) but he is a quality player. Another one we lost………..doh!
get me a CB, DM, Winger and a CF and i’ll be satisfied.
For CB – one of (in order of preference) Sakho, Mertesacker, Cahill (10-15mil)
DM – Parker or Moussa Sissoko (5-10 mil)
Winger – Hazard (20mil)
CF – Benzema (20mil)
I think all up that would cost about 60 mill.
Get rid of bendtner, denilson, rosicky, schillachi, almunia for around 20 mil in total, add that to the 40mil kitty we should currently have and we are champions league winners imo.
Also need to keep clichy and cesc. hard to replace left backs and i dont think gibbs is up to it. Maybe Baines but not sure he is better than clichy.
we don’t need a mass clearout and we don’t need a massive rebuilding job either. we just need to skim off 3 or 4 underperformers, replace them with 2 or 3 proven, classy players, and promote the best kids we have to the first team squad.
almunia, squillaci, denilson, rosicky and bendtner out is enough.
any more is way too much instability.
hahahahahahahahah, it’s realy funny any time i hear arsenal wants to buy a player cos it always end up been just mere propaganda . . . . but seriously, regardless of what any arsenal fan thinks, these are the best players that arsenal should sign CAHILL, BENZEMA, SAKHO, PARKER, GOTZE, and ME LOL
I’m a little confused about the comments about Gervinho. People on here may not have actually watched Lille. A tall, powerful striker? Wrong, wrong, wrong. He is not tall – nor short – 180 cm and weighs less than 150 lbs. He looks taller than he is because of his narrow frame. Nor is he really a striker. He’s much more of a wide forward, that’s how he’s played at Lille with such great success with he and Hazard on the wings, often switching flanks, with Sow – this season – or Frau or de Melo in the centre-forward position. He played centrally for Le Mans previously, but had a terribly low strike-rate. It wasn’t really until Rudi Garcia moved him to the wings that he started scoring goals. And his game is all about dribbling – best in Ligue 1 -, making smart runs from the wings, and, to a lesser extent, short one-touch passing. I’m not diminishing his talents as I’d love to see him at Arsenal and he’s a true gooner, but I’m just clarifying. To that point, I think we need not only a ball-playing wide midfielder like Hazard to replace Rosicky, but also a wide-forward like Gervinho to replace Arshavin to give Nasri and Walcott, respectively, competition.
And come on, Sneijder proven in the EPL? You’re kidding yourself, mate.
Flargie – he said that Ashley Young was proven and Sneijder has won 3 trophies in 3 countries… Read comments properly before posting!!!
gunner17a says gibbs is not good enough to replace clichy. have you seen clichy play recently he’s been terrible for most of the season. he can’t defend, can’t cross
sorry gunner17a wrong person
I’ve seen these types of comments for many a moon, this is akin to masturbating.
Wenger will continue on his pursuit of fourth place. The tranfer that needs to happen is Wenger out, Hiddink in. Then we can realistically speak about trenfers
Agree TM at left back, Samba and Cahill in middle,SEBASTIEN SCHWEINSTEIGER for Cesc and a cheeky bid for Defoe up front, what do you think?
Both of these players Jenkinson , and ricky alvarez dont even seems as signings , one of them is a 19 year old def not ready, while the other is injury prone and has scored only 2 goals, which is not good enuf, IMO
Kick out Diaby, Denilson, Bendtner, Arshavin, Almunia, Squillacci and hope we can make around 30 mil on them. We need more strong players like Samba who can lead aggressively, don’t get out muscled, don’t get easily injured and gives 110% commitment. Seems Clichy is moving out. It is a position difficult to fill and I don’t think Gibbs is up for it just yet. My opinion is to get Samba in CB, Parker in DM, Baines in LB and a world class striker who can convert well, the multitude of chances that Arsenal are creating ….
I think a massive clear out is risky. There is a need to clean out the defensive line since that has cost us dear. Only Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscienly, Gibbs, Miquel should remain. Add Samba, Cahill to that. In Mid, let Fab, Diaby and Denilson go. Get Parker! He will work with Wilshire, Song and Ramsey. Upfront, let Bendtner and Vela go. Lets get Benzema and DJ Campbell. Lets fight to keep Nasri. We need him along with Walcott, RvP, Frimpong and Lansbury.
If you think he has ability and you’re sorry to see him go then you’re retarded!
He was trusted with a striker position last year, he failed. RVP stepped up this year so he was given an unfamiliar role so he could actually play. He failed! The guy is a joke and I hope he does go so we can have someone else who may actually warrant wearing the Arsenal shirt!
Clear out all of the dead wood.. there are too many players at Arsenal not earning their money!! Diaby – 60k
Denilson – 50k
Rosicky – 50-60k
etc etc…
bring in Sakho is possible, if not then Cahill.. i really rate Samba but he is so slow… so may struggle in Champs league….
Inler, Parker or Melo
and Benzema up front.. or if dont wanna spend.. Drogba.. i have a hated of him!!… however, 8 mil, will score a few, get lots of assists and add some steel to the attack… we could do to other teams what Drogba did to Senderos over and over…
and in a dream world.. Alexi Sanchez…. but wont happen..
my opınıon ıs,lets sell any player who wants to go even ıf ıts farcelona, and try hard to keep those who are wıllıng to play for arsenal ıf they are ok to be back ups and then buy those we badly need to have.we cant sell the whole back up squad and depend on new players alone,we need to have those players who understand arsenal game around, just ıncase the new ones dont clıck,actually thats what man u does(ı dont love man u anyway).Agaın ıf ıts a buy,for adaptabılıty sake, let the buy be from england.
It is a great news to hear that arsenal have started to sign. It is high time we spent this summer. We cant wait to win the EPL
I have a feeling we’ll sell m
I have a feeling we’ll sell mat sell more players than bring any in. I don’t expect any marquee signings like Arshavin or Nasri both were the worst kept transfer targets on history. I do think we’ll use our connections in France to pull in another unknown signing:
However I’d like to see Cahill and Parker for certain. Cahill would impact massively on the development of Miquel and Bartley who I both feel have a future with Arsenal. Parker is a no brainer, full international, captain, leader and we can offer champs league Footy. Honestly don’t see us going for Benzema unless he’s part of the cesc deal.
I think our formation would then be:
Chezzer
Sagna
Clichy
Verm
Clichy probably will leave. Izaguire from Celtic would be a good signing. Less than 10million. We won’t get benzema he wants to stay at Madrid. Also stop mentioning a clearout ? Do you really think Wenger will sell 5 or 6 players ? never
