Last week I mentioned on Twitter that I had an article coming up on a player we have been watching quite a bit of recently. Since then I have been a bit strapped for time but now that the cat is out the bag and other people are reporting we are watching Mata, I may as well get what I know out in the open.
Arsenal watch a ton of players and very few of them end up getting signed, so it doesn’t mean any move is imminent or will happen in the future.
From what I know Mata is being considered (along with others) to fill in for Tomas Rosicky who seems very likely to leave in the summer. Last summer Arsenal had at least two chances to sell Rosicky or involve him in player plus cash deals for two transfer targets that never materialised. This information has come to light a little while after Lille slapped a massive transfer fee on the head of Eden Hazard who Arsene Wenger was very, very keen to bring in. Whilst the two events may be unconnected, they are both very relevant.
Juan has gone on record to say that he is an admirer of Arsenal, but at the end of the day money talks – and Arsenal could get him for significantly less than Eden Hazard, for example.
Valencia are also in a very bad financial state with the last forecasts noting that they were in debt to the tune of £420m – at least. They have a half-built new stadium on which they have had to halt work due to these financial issues and sold several important players recently, including David Villa and David Silva.
Will anything materialise? I have no idea. However, I find it encouraging Arsenal are looking at players of Mata’s quality. Lets see what happens.

of course this is good but in the end Wenger wont buy him if they want 1 mill more. I think it is time for a change in management. Or bring someone in like Dein.
First time poster on here, i’ve found you to have some interesting inside info. From what your saying you seem to think Hazard is out of reach now. Is this correct?
Would love to see Mata in an Arsenal Shirt…even if brought in as replacement for Rosicky he would def get more playing time…what a stud!
Personally, I would like to see Keisuke Honda bought in to replace Rosicky.
I agree that it is great that Arsenal is looking at new players, specially of etiquette like Mata. Let’s see what happens I suppose
comment number 3 has been made by someone who knows nothing about the game. honda has zero technique.
Would much prefer Hazard.
If Cesc still wants to leave, sell him, Bendtner, Clichy, Rosicky, Almunia and Denilson and buy Hazard ,Benzema, Sakho, Van der Wiel, and Izaguirre.
Give Diaby another season at least, he has the talent easily.
Promote from within for all other positions and switch Nasri to Cesc’s position. Done.
We don’t need another GK, Fabianski has come good, and Szcensny looks great. No other CB needed, we have been unlucky with Vermalean. Verminator, Djourou and Koscieny and Sakho would be pretty amazing.
Same old story we are always watching players and are linked to every man and his dog but we all know we won’t sign him or anybody else wenger would just say we tried or they are too expensive to to get rid rid of some dead wood at the emirates and open our cheque book otherwise at this rate even the spuds will end up overtaking us (god forbid) as they seem intent on spending money and trying to over take us!
We have so many offensive players, yet we lack width, long distance shooting, and lately, surprise (not to mention a center forward).
Supossedly Afellay could be inluded in Fàbregas deal. Considering the departure of our skipper is looking more and more inevitable, I think Afellay is a good choice for the left wing.
I really wanted Hazard, he’s the kind of resourceful player that can create a chance out of nowhere. I know we have Nasri, but he’s not offering surprise this last couple of months, and it semms there’s no one in the squad that can full in for him.
Won’t matter if our offer is £4m
yeahx2 just watch and watch…end of the transfer window would be another window shopping for us…
Have a horrible feeling nasri is going in the summer, particularly if cesc does.
We could find ourselves crippled with big sales in the summer and therefore regressing. Hope not but fans and certain players have little faith in the future at present
It’s bizarre how an article that includes the tragic point about Valencia’s dire financial situation (a club that spent trying to keep up with Madrid and Barca, and in the process made it to more Champion’s League finals than us – but is now paying the price) then finds comments criticizing AW for not spending enough!
Yes he could have spent another million on Alonso, so the story goes, but then Chelsea and Man City would just spend more. (Torres and Luiz are responses to losing ground; if you needed any evidence there it is). The right thing to do is to stay sustainable. Arsenal are weathering the biggest economic crisis in years because of sound fiscal management. I’d love AW to take more of a gamble, but there is no evidence moving forward that this is a rational position over and above driving a hard bargain on transfers (hindsight is not worthwhile evidence). AW has made some mistakes with players. Lets see how he rectifies this going forward. It will be an interesting 5 months – Arsenal at a crossroads.
Hazard has amazing potential, but as stated, Lille may be asking for too much. I like Arda Turan for the Arsenal better than Juan Mata personally, although Mata is talented as well.
I agree with comment no 8. We will not get either Hazard or Mata. Wenger doesn’t spend the kind of money he is valued at. All talk of signing players like Benzema, Van Der Wiel etc are wide of the Mark.
Wenger’s policy is to buy youngsters and turn them into stars or promote from within.
I don’t want mega-bucks spent but the money is there. Spending 30m would not bankrupt us. When done well, spending can reap brilliant rewards. Its all about moderation and responsibility.
think people are in dream world if you think wenger will sell 4 or 5 players and bring in 4 or 5, not going to happen, we will be lucky to get 3 new players and with wengers loyalty to his players i cant see too many meaving.
Also believe in wenger and his policies, we are financially sound and why risk getting into a Liverpool situation by getting rid of the man who has stabilised the club and been such a success.
Personally i think, sell cesc, rosicky and squillaci. Bring in Hazard and Cahill.
We need good players in arsenal like hazard, mate, bent,
We need good players in arsenal like hazard, mata, bent,
If Wenger refuse to sign any players and i know arsenal could sell wenger him self and uses he money to buy good players and we can win cup.
Interesting to see that there’s another website with rumours of Diego today who’s similar in style and quality. I’m starting to think that there is an intention to replace Rosicky and Arsene has a few players in mind. As we always see he’ll only buy a player if they represent good value which might disappoint many but we’re not living in a world where money grows on trees so that leaves some spare for another player.
Btw Wolfsburg will probably get relegated, Diego will cost about 6m and either Mata or Diego would add quality to the squad. It’s possible that he’s moved on from Hazard who would cost approx 3 times as much.
If Arsenal are watching anyone from Valencia it should be Ever Banega. Banega would be fairly cheap and could fill in for Song and Wilshere.
“Arsenal watching Juan Mata”…mate, come on. He’s a full Spain international and a regular starter for Valencia, he’s obviously talented enough for us given some of the no-marks in our squad. To say we’re “watching” Mata doesn’t mean sh*t unless we’re ready to pony up the reddies needed to bring him to Emirates. If we’re not, we might as well say “Arsenal are watching Messi” for all the difference it makes.
Huh! Its not just the money people! Its Wenger’s ego. To go out and buy quality players now would mean admitting that we were right and he – (who earns the big bucks)was wrong for the last 6 seasons! So we can all forget about Wenger targeting top quality players and paying decent wages. It is common sense that he ought to grab Buffon – despite his reportedly asking salary of 125k per week. He is a free transfer – so make up the difference in the salary – but oh NO – Wenger will say that he has the fullest confidence and faith in our current GKs. WE ought to sell :
Denilson, Diaby, Song, Squillacchi, Rocisky, Arshavin, Gibbs, Ozyyakup, Eboue, Djourou, Chamakh, Bendtner, Almunia, Fabianski. We all know that Cesc will want to leave. For God’s sake let the man go. If his heart is somewhere else – let him go live his dream man. Just take 50 mil quid for him and let the poor lad off the hook. Assuming you take 50 million for Cesc, selling all these players should net you about 90-100 million quid.
Now wanker … err sorry, Wenger, – add to that say another 20 million and get yourself a 100+ mil pound kitty to go buy a few decent players – Get Kaka to replace Cesc for starters or Mesut Ozil or Marek Hamsik. Etc etc…. But whats the friggin point …! He is just too much of a fool to aacept that he was wrong …
We Should Sign We Need Him
hey total disagree with comment no 22,how can you sell song who has been a better player in the middle of the park this season,i min song, wilshere and fabregas formed a formidable midfield this season, its better to sell denilson, squid, bendner, diaby, almunia and rocisky and from those flops we can raise around 50 mil pounds nd buy Cahill, get stelenburg or buffon and forcefully striker like drogba(not neccessary him)and if possible good backup for alex song.
Um, have you heard of Wages commentator 22? If he get buffon for free (and I haven’t heard that he’ll be available on a Bosman) and pay him 125k a week, not only will we have to increase the salary of Cesc, RvP, Nasri nad the other top earners in our squad, we will also completely ignore Szczesny, who will undoubtedly want to go if we sign a keeper after his performances this season.
And selling people isn’t as easy as you think. Selling Almunia would be a big pain considering that he’s paid 50k a week and would be unlikely to take a pay cut since he won’t get an offer from a club which can afford to pay him 50k. And who will want to buy him anyway? Same goes for Squillaci etc
And LOL at buying players from Real’s starting 11. You are delusional dear sir.
arsenal should by alexsis sanchez to replace arshavin
simple mathematics….offer Denilson plus Bentner and 5M
Excellent – another midfielder who’s 5’7″.. Just what we need..
RIP David Rocky Rocastle.10 years gone today but never to be forgotton.God bless you Rocky and your family you are a true Arsenal legend.Just watched a tribute to the great man and it brought a tear to my eye,he was a very talented skillful player and loved his goals and the fact he always smiled.Arsenal and all its fans will always remember David with great fondness.
no. 22 is a mug. u cannot buy half a top team with 100+ mil in this economy, we just neeed 2 add 3 players 2 shore up each position EXCEPT GOALIE. get rid of the dead wood NOT DIABY. and promte the better youngsters e.g. frimpong, bartley.
however if players like rosicky arshavin leave then we need 2 replace them and mata would b the best choice bcoz he is a very good goalscorer unlike hazard who isnt quite there yet.
for me ajax duo ithink are enough take per metasaker eden hazard offload rosicky, diaby eboue, squlaci, bendner denilson clinchy and the money wiol be enough then take swizstiger
Mata is a viable option. We have already been in touch with his father and Valencia…
It is good to dream, I can see having read the comments by fans they have done their homework and have highlighted some great players that could set the Emirates ablaze. But Le-Boss, we know will be bargin hunting again.
I know the season is not yet over, but with a little bit more quality all Arsenal players and fans could have been walking on air. Hey we have to settle with Hi-tec trainers.
What is more urgent I feel is an aducate replacement for Pat Rice. That is where we need to start. Hoping he can be encouraged to take a bow at the end of the season. The Wenger + Rice connection Na cut it anymore. They have become like Siamese twins, both seeing the same thing and we know that is impossible behind tinted lenses.
[...] little update on the Juan Mata news I brought you last week. Arsenal have had contact with Valencia and Mata’s father. Maybe something will happen on [...]
