Arsenal’s next ten games are winnable

Arsenal 2-1 Huddersfield – brief thoughts.

A couple of players had torrid games, I have no idea if it was down to attitude of the opposition playing well (which they did). Huddersfield were outstanding and did themselves, their league and Herbert Chapman proud.

We got a tad lucky to get away with the win but it is what big teams do. The loss of Nasri is a massive one but he is a quick healer so hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later – and not rushed back either. He isn’t essential for Barca at home, but away is a completely different scenario and he will be vital.

It was down to Cesc to give us the drive we needed yet again. The performance was not good enough but that is what Man United specialise in. We avoided a replay and a cup shock - albeit narrowly. Well played, Huddersfield.

_ _ _ _

Arsenal play Everton tonight having not won three consecutive premiership games all season. Win tonight it will be three in a row.

Looking at the fixture list we should be winning the next ten games. It is our chance to catch up with United and hopefully more – surpass them. It is crunch time now, the transfer window is shut and there is nothing we can do about a lack of signings, the squad we have is good enough.

We are five points off the top of the league, in the final of the Carling Cup, the fifth round of the FA Cup and the knockout stage of the Champions League. Not bad.

The eleventh league game is Man United at home, by that point we ideally want to be in front of them – then we face Spurs too.

I’m not by any means saying that we will win our next ten games, but we can, we are good enough too. If we want to win the league we need to go on some sort of run to set ourselves out from the pack. Will there be a better chance to win the league over the next few years? Right now its tricky to say no.

Everton are a very good side but it is claimed there is a lot of unrest in the squad, money is thin on the ground and if reports are to be believed, they had to get players off the wage-bill urgently.

We will be without Samir Nasri but van Persie and Walcott will probably return in the middle and on the right. The left hand side will give the manager a bit of a headache, but a positive one. Arshavin look a lot move lively against Huddersfield and there was a lot more intent about him, he ran at defenders and look a little more like his old self. The end product was missing but that is down to confidence and it will return.

I have a feeling Bendtner will be given a chance to add to his two goals in two appearances. Whatever your feelings about him, he usually scores when he starts. His stats can’t be argued with.

One of the main concerns at the moment is players suffering muscular injuries once again, Nasri and Denilson went down with them on Sunday and we can’t afford to lose any more important players. I do wonder if Song or Cesc will be rested in favour of Diaby who has just returned from his own injury lay-off. I’d be loathed to lose the brilliant midfield trio we have but at some point rotation will be needed. In defence Sagna should return with Djourou to partner Koscielny and Clichy.

It is time for this team to put in a shift like they did in 1998. We all know what happened then. They can do it. Come on Arsenal.

Til tomorrow.
