Bit of transfer news to start with…
I was told by a reliable source last night that Arsenal are keeping their eyes on one transfer target in January and it is 50/50 whether they make a move for him, the only other information is that available to me is the nationality and age of the target – German and 25 – no other information has been made available to me on that front.
A lot of fans are interested in the future of Denilson, and the boss is reluctant to sell anybody at all in January according to my source, but would find it difficult to ignore offers above the £11-12 million mark for him, the sort of offer you couldn’t just turn your back on.
If an offer comes in for a sale-able and replaceable player over the January transfer window, the chances are it would be accepted.
Any sale of Denilson would also open up funds to be re-invested in the summer, Eden Hazard is believed to be a target for when the season finishes after the manager has had a long-held interest in him. Rumours of a £2 million down-payment made to Lille are false, however we do have first refusal on him.

After the brilliant win on Monday and Man United’s slip up yesterday this has quickly become a win-at-all-costs game, it is a big chance to put some big pressure on United and with the big game against City closing in we need to start to build up a good run on wins.
The chances of us seeing a fair few changes are high, the intensity of the Chelsea game was much higher than usual with the increased pressing and a similar shift needs to be put in tonight – Diaby, Arshavin and Rosicky will probably all get their chance, Chamakh or Bendtner too.
It is the sort of game where an early goal really, really helps. It cuts frustration out and is a nice confidence booster, not that confidence should be low after beating Chelsea. The main thing to look out for is rustiness and changing the line-up too much, the nucleus of the team that faced Chelsea needs to be retained for this game despite only having one days rest.

I heard we’re in for Mertesacker. Sounds plausible considering TV5 injury problems.
25 year old German is Mertesacker, I think we should buy him, and sell Squilacci….then I would either:
1) Sell Clichy and put Vermaelen at left back, wid Mertesacker and Djourou in the centre
2) Keep Clichy and put a middle of Verm and Mertasacker, although keeping Djourou at 4th choice will not benifit him
Bob, last time i asked about Mertesacker no deal was possible so interest was dropped..
The two targets that spring to mind are Manuel Neuer (24) and Per Metersacker (26). However, I can’t see Wenger making a move should Vermaelen make a return. As for the Hazard rumors…maybe something to it given the club seem in no hurry to renew Arshavin’s contract.

99.99 percent of the times at least that we hear we are getting him and him it doesnt happen.As an arsenal fan i dont concern myself too much with the prospect of new arrivals although i think we could be doing with one at least of real quality at whatever cost.In away you can see improvement being made by certain players and you can understand wenger to a point when he says he doesnt want to hinder players developments by buying new ones.The squad is stronger this season which is clear when you look at our bench each week.Players like bendtner,vela,rosicky,arshavin,walcott,gibbs,chesny,denilson and others are quite often on that bench.Then we have diaby,ramsay,vermaelen and gibbs to come back in to the squad.I believe one player in the 10 to 20 million bracket might just be enough to get us over the line,and it has to be a defensive midfieder.Although i think we can win honours without new signings this season providing we have overdue luck on the injury front.Just imagine if cesc and rvp stayed fit for the 2nd half of the season,fingers crossed on that one and the wigan game tonight.A word of caution to the players for tonights game,be ruthless,merciless,and extremely focused,this is the premiership and its very,very tough no matter where you go.thanks.

Hmmm, not another Koscielny thanks- he really is a bit of a liability at this stage in his development- prefer Sqillaci all day long at the moment.
What proof does anyone have we have a ‘first option’ on Hazard- just cant see that at all, why would we have?
Mertesacker would be a good buy- Him & Djourou or him and Vermaelen would match well. Sqillaci and the error prone Koscielny are back up at best
Iain – we definitely do have first option on Hazard, there were prolongued discussions with Lille about it. He is a target for a lot of clubs
Can anyone explain to me why Arsene would sit JD and start Squillaci after his performance on monday night. Barring injury, Squillaci should never see the field. He shouldnt even start for West Brom let alone the Arsenal. Wasted chance to go level on points.
If you say our interest on Mertesacker is dropped then there are 2 other possible targets that spring to mind. Heiko Westermann and Serdar Tasci, but they are 27 and 23 respectively. I’d love to welcome Westermann as he’s just they right type of player that we need right now, he’s strong and capable of playing on every defensive positions. But I haven’t heard a rumour linking him with us. Another one who will be welcomed at the club is Vertonghen who could link up well with Vermaelen.
As with our defensive concerns, why did even Wenger think about buying Squillaci in the summer ? He didn’t solve our problems at the back and if he just wanted to sign a back up well at least he should have signed a taller one.
One question for you Martin : do you know anything about Almunia’s current situation ?

Last night’s game at Wigan, should have answered many questions for Mr. Wenger, who should go and who should come in. Having also rested Song, the team was further weakened. Another question: What would happen if he is injured? BiG Managers have to make BIG decisions at the right time. Soon time for Action.
