The club are under no pressure to officially announce the transfer of Sebastian Squillaci, he is not scheduled to carry out any interviews like Marouane Chamakh was; Arsenal didn’t want to announce his arrival on a Friday but were pushed into a corner.
I’m sure everything is fine, there was no issue with the medical and all the registration and paperwork will just have added more time onto the announcement. Add to that the pictures, video interviews and the like and its never going to be announced quickly.
The club are renowned for making their announcements when it suits them, remember the delay in the announcement of Adebayor’s departure? We didn’t see a word about it on the official site for two of three days.
If Arsenal want publicity around the deal then today was not the day to announce it, Spurs play in the Champions League tonight and if they go through they would dominate the back pages.
Then again, if we all wish hard enough it may just be a double unveiling alongside a brand spanking new goalkeeper..
Don’t worry folks, everything is fine. Squillaci is ours.

Its silent at the moment, there is nothing really around at all. All depends on whether Fulham get a goalkeeper – its like the domino effect.

I hope, you’re right mate, I’d like to read the ‘Sebastian Squillaci completes his move to Arsenal’ headline on the arsenal.com very soon. I’m a bit devastetd in the big waiting, but I can only hope that everything is fine: he passed the medical, and trains with the others.
But I’m afraid, Arsenal have no time to hide Squillaci: tomorrow is scheulded the pre-match interview of Wenger, the Champions League draw, and on Friday the official press conference will take place.
Honestly I’d be very surprised if Wenger told us the nightmare sentence that he is not close to sign anybody…
Haha I have a feeling it will be announced first thing tomorrow – about 9am – the pre-match interviews start at mid-day so I’d imagine its before then.
Sevilla have already signed his replacement so its definitely going through! I’ve heard he is 100% our player and the announcement is sooner rather than later

Squillaci is ours? Not as if he is being chased by any other big clubs is it.
Goes to show how desperate fans are for a signing when we start getting excited about a 30 year old no one has ever heard of before.
my theory is simple it will be announced on Friday, think that is when Arsenal make a weekly statement for shareholders, plus he could have gone back to Spain to sort his commitments so club might have given him a day or two for that and will make the announcement on Friday

I’m not complaining about his ability, we need a new defender so I’m sure he’ll do fine.
My point is:
1) a month ago hardly anyone in England heard of him, as fans we are so desperate for signing, now he is being built up to be some kind of messiah.
2) we spent 5 or 6 years building youth at the club, and then go out and sign players over 30. I’m sure there is a happy medium with young experienced players.
3) the guy is 30, if he was that good he would have been snapped up by a big club 5 – 10 years ago.

I have lived in Spain now for 14 years and have asked quite a few spanerds what they think of squillaci, and they all think he is a good solid defender, so hopefully he will slot in well for us
I think that he will compliment the defenders we have very well and he has vital experience of winning things

i’m nearly sure squillaci is going to be first choice, disregarding the fact that koscienly has really impressed me. Wenger clearly realises that this side is lacking experience at the back, and someone in the team that is capable of guiding the side to a trophy. Also i don’t think a player would leave seville, to sit on the bench for arsenal, especially as he is in his prime…

why in gods name are we waiting for a shitty little team like fulham to accept a bid on a washed up goalkeeper who is only going to come to arsenal if a BETTER keeper joins fulham? Am i missing something here? I just dont get why we would even consider schwarzer. Wenger needs to fork out the money on an established, good keeper who has more than 2 years left in his less than successful career. We are better than fulham and therefore we should be better than fulhams 2nd choice keeper.

We don’t know, Arsenal announce a transfer once it is a deal done. With one or two days delay. Remember: it was rumoured that Chamakh travlled to London on that week when he signed to the team. But it was announced only on Friday. I’ve heard that there are some interesting burocratic step in the transfer process, especially if a player didn’t play for an English club througout his career.
If he had failed in his medical, I reckon, we would know it – let’s see what happened to poor Loic Remy.
Don’t worry, I think, Martin is right. Maybe Squillaci has been an Arsenal player for a while just the admins of arsenal.com are waiting for the translation for the videos. We’ll see. I think he’ll be announced until the end of the week- or at least I hope. Otherwise Wenger won’t avoid the question about him, so we’ll know more soon. Just I hope the answer won’t be that ‘we’re not close to sign anybody at the moment’…
And I had not expected him to play against Blackburn, although I hope he’ll be announced this week.
Wenger has got to answer questions at mid day tomorrow so think we will see it before then.

It could be Arsenal might have a gk lined up. If the gk is not signed,not only I but trillions of gunner fans will be shell if not nuclear shocked.Yeah I know Arsene knows best but at times he doesn’t know a thing about defence especially the gk.
He better get it right in the big games especially against Chelsea and Mu.I have nothing against his attacking soccer but make sure the defence is not caught by a swift counter by these two teams. You see everybody knows the blues and the rfc don’t waste time going for goal.They don’t beleive in passing around the box. Minimum passing is the order of the day and shots are unleashed asap.
hey guys, I understand what you all are talking about, but the main question is, have we got enough centre backs? We need one more CB apart from Squillaci, and surely a keeper, preferably Maarten Stekelenburg! But that seems impossible since he featured in the Ajax Dynamo Kyiv game, I agree with the others who are talking about Akinfeev, he is quality. One question though, I might sound dumb but how long is Koscielny out for? I know Joe Cole is out for 3 prem league games because he got a straight red, but what happens to Koscielny since he got a red after seeing 2 yellows.

What assures me is that if the deal had not been completed, it would have been in the media because they had already announced that he is in for medicals.So i believe Squillaci is ours.
Koscielny is out for one match and he has completed his suspension, he will be back against blackburn.the rule is two yellows one match suspension, direct red card three match suspension.
