After the Barnet game there was the usual media scramble for a few words from the Boss about his transfer targets and who may be leaving – possibly the first chance to ask him questions of this nature all summer, and there were some interesting answers by all accounts.
It seems any deal for Mark Schwarzer is dead in the water, he has been priced out of a move by Fulham, and priced out of a chance to play regular Champions League football. Fulham want 4 million, Arsenal won’t pay it. There won’t be any grumblings from within the Highbury House walls. (Watch and learn, Ba*ca).
His comments on the Schwarzer situation were along the lines of this:
“Not really (interested). We are still looking at various situations, but I would not like to come out on any individuals.
“At the moment, in pre-season, there is no number one – you have to give a chance to everyone to show how good he is. You cannot decide that today.”
There has to be some movement on this front soon, you can’t just throw a new keeper into a new season with no relationship with his defence. We need a new goalkeeper, its as simple as that. Anything other than a new signing there is negligence.
It also looks like that out of the three out of contract defenders, Old Sol is the most likely to stay but even that doesn’t mean he will… the boss said his situation was ‘in no mans land’. He is neither here or there, he was one of two Arsenal players to wed yesterday too, so congrats Sol.
All Barca affiliated people need to take note of these next few sentences.
Arsene sent a message to Barcelona, telling them to end their pursuit of Cesc, and quickly:
“There was a lot of unneeded talk. It is not pleasant to read that every day. Now, the story has to stop.
“Cesc is our captain, he is so important to us and we want to keep him, that is why we were not listening to any offers.
“It was not a problem of money, just the desire to keep him at the club.”
So Cesc will be an Arsenal player next season. Sweet.

Arsenal News 24/7

Although “soon” is a relative term, I think there’s stuff being actively worked on. With AW now back from the World Cup, expect whatever was being put together to have a final push through. Although it may not happen “soon”.
Add to that the length of time it takes for us to sign someone…
personally I think wenger has totally lost his marbles. Talked about refreshing the sqaud and buying this summer, and what the fuck has happened? A disgruntles captain wanting out, 2 CB out, 3rd one not commited to the club and looking for a move, 1 cb in TV, and 1 new CB so no cover there, RVP a glass player fit for 2 months of the seaosn, walcott an injury prone player, arshavin a pri ma dona only turning up when he wnats to, so thats 2 out of 38 games, midfileders that dont like to shoot, diaby more likely to break his leg and pass the ball to the opposing team than roll tem over with his frame, rosicky happy to sit for 2+ years getting 90k, eduardo has lost the plot. So tell me MR wenger wtf is going to change this year? Bloody nothing we havem more disgruntled players than ever. Who eevr thinks Arshavin is happy is also living in cloud fairy land, all this tlak of Fbaregas going Barcelona, Arshavin last season just kept coming out with him wanting to go there. I bet its eating him up that no bid has come in for him. OH also we got 2 usless keepers. Wenger being pure cheap as usual. Even signing free transfers takes us 3 years. What wenger is doing is a fucking disgrace in my opinion. Get out that cheque book u tight fisted bastard and go sign another derender, a goal keeper, and a bloody midfield player that likes to shoot at goal, and not pass, pass, pass, pass, pass sideways, passbackwards, and then loose the ball.
Hey martie, sounds like you’ve got issues.
We have a manager and he’s better informed than you.
So, why don’t you take your hysteria and support a buying club like Manchester City. At Arsenal we build teams not buy them.
If you don’t like it then Arsenal’s not the club for you.
I don’t think you’ll be missed.
I understand Martie’s frustration. I think it is accurate to say that many think like martie at this moment in time.
The problem is (and Im speaking to you now DSCH) is that we are not some Sunday afternoon side, we are a side competing with the best in Europe which translates to the best in the world. So to be trying to bargain hunt like you at some garage sale and still expect to compete with the best and more importantly keep the people reinvesting in the club is a HUGE ask when your tactics are centered around being thrifty.
No, we are not glory hunters, we see the same problems recycle themselves every year. The question is why doesnt Wenger address them? Is it finances? Is it faith? Is it Wenger trying to prove to everyone that he is a revolutionary? We need answers, even if its what we dont want to hear
