Reports this afternoon suggest that Eduardo is in Ukraine and is on the verge of signing for Shakhtar Donetsk for around €7 million.
A fee has been agreed and so have personal terms, I’ve heard his wages will be somewhere in the region of three million Euros per year. Captain Dario Srna recommended Eduardo to the Donetsk hierarchy and it seems they have approached Arsenal and the club were willing to do business.
It all makes sense, Its understood that he was pulled out of yesterdays squad for the Barnet game at late notice. Strangely enough it comes soon after the boss claimed that he was in his plans for the upcoming season and also begs a few questions about arrivals… will Joe Cole now come in? Are we in the market for another striker? … or does it give Carlos Vela one last chance?
In hindsight it has looked inevitable since January, where appearances in the team became more and more scarce – to the point where he wasn’t even named in match-day squads at the end of the season, its a sad disappointing way for such a talented player to leave.
A Croatian newspaper has reported it in his adopted country and News of the World journalist Dan King has also claimed that ‘his man in the Balkans’ has confirmed that he will sign for the club very soon.
Keep an eye on Gunnerblog (who is seeking confirmation) and the news feeds over the next few hours.
If true, It’s a sad way for him to go, sneaking out the exit door with barely a whimper after a few injury ravaged seasons. He is a player who at his best is lethal, we saw that in the Emirates Cup last season when he took that goal brilliantly against Rangers, I thought he was back.

Arsenal News 24/7

not Vince Grella but Dario Srna, bad translation.
Sad if true.he is a gent and a good servant to Arsenal. that injury has stalled his career at this club. It’s time for him to move on. I would welcome Joe Cole to arsenal,he is a wonderful player
idont want joe cole, i want a keeper, cole is after money not football
I feel sad for Eddie, he went through horrific injury and was fortunate to recover from that. Unfortunatly he has not been the same since and now it’s probebly bet we sell rather than let him rot on the bench. I personally would not want Joe Cole at Arsenal simply because of his injury record and it would be a hypocritical signing. I would really like to see Wilshere step up to first team instead, but im not sure if he is ready yet.
It’s sad to see Eduardo go, but perhaps a fresh start elsewhere is the best for him. I’m in two minds about Cole. Yes, he’s after money, but any half decent player of his age on a free transfer will be out for the best deal possible. I do believe that he has not come close to fulfilling his potential, so could really shine in the right club. The question is whether Arsenal is the right club. All the rumours this morning were about Cole going to Liverpool.
I still, don’t want to believe that..The arsenal family always hoped he will step in one day in the coming season and show us what we know he is capable of..It’s sad, tempted to think at least on an emotional level it would have been better if it were Cesc who was leaving.
I will be in denial at least up to when it is confirmed.
Sad indeed. There is a real talent there. The injury nearly rinned him. I thought he was back last year too…
This is a romour!!! Wenger came out clearly saying that he is not for sale and that he has plans for the Croatian striker!!!
don’t believe everything wenger says. sad though if he leaves, could have been back to his best this season.
Personally, I hope Eduardo stays ! At least one more year, hopefully a new season may give him the will to succeed at Arsenal, his talent is immense, & it would be a shame to watch him just fade away. A true gent, he has to be given this last chance to shine !
Lets not be too hasty to put Eduardo’s potential departure all on the shoulders of AW & Arsenal (as in we just shipped him off). If it does indeed happen, it’s very likely that Eduardo was either open to moving or spoke with AW & understood that minutes would be limited with the arrival of Chamakh & Bendtner providing a bigger target. If the move happens, I am sure it’s with the blessing of all concerned, and there undoubtedly will be the absolute best wishes from the Club to Eduardo if he heads off to Shakhtar. He’ll always be a Gunner to the supporters, and I’m sure to the Club as well.
We’re all fond of Dudu because he always carried himself well for the Club, and really showed promise before the injury. His recovery is nothing short of miraculous and worthy of every bit of admiration. In this case though, a league that’s perhaps less physical and maybe a bit slower will allow him to regain his past excellent form and shine again in Europe. He’s still young enough that European Championships and a World Cup are not out of the question for him.
