Afternoon,
so with every minute ticking by we are getting closer and closer to Eduardo Da Silva being officially unveiled as a Shakhtar Donetsk player, the fee is agreed and the personal terms are the same as they currently are at Arsenal, he was in Colney yesterday undergoing a medical with four members of the Shakhtar medical team and there is a lot of noise suggesting that everything was fine and he passed with no problems at all.
Judging by that there is only the paperwork that needs sorting out and I’d estimate that in the next 24 hours there will be an official announcement on the website that he has signed for the Ukrainians. There will be a lot more about what has happened to him when the signing is official but lets just say this; the fact his career has been severely affected by that tackle at Birmingham a few years ago – that only merited a two game ban according to the FA – is a travesty.
The squad are out in Austria and you can see them being put through their paces, it seems that a couple of players may be on their way out after Eduardo, Jay Simpson missed out on the Austria trip even after his brace against Barnet and Nacer Barazite also missed out leaving his place in Arsene’s plans open to question – he has to do something sooner rather than later because he has been nowhere near the first team so far despite all the hype around him a few years back. It is interesting to see Henri Lansbury, J. Thomas and Frimpong traveling along with Nordveit too, we will almost certainly see them in the Carling Cup at least, injury’s permitting of course.
Robin van Persie has been named the number ten for next season, following in the footsteps of Dennis Bergkamp, his idol. As a result Carlos Vela has been confirmed as our number eleven for next season which almost certainly means he is staying and being given one more chance. It is an opening created by the sale of Eduardo so he really needs to take his chance and show his talent is not wasted in this league, and all the time the club have invested in him has been worthwhile. He has talent, we all know that, I just happen to think he has just taken it too easy and not worked as hard as he should have. His professionalism has been called into question after he lost his passport before the Barcelona game so couldn’t travel, he needs to buck his ideas up if he is going to make it. I really wouldn’t be bothered if he had moved this summer.
After all it seems that this summer is the sellers market, Manchester City are single handedly inflating the market for both transfer fees and wages, its a complete and utter joke. Nobody can compete, they can easily blow Chelsea out the water in both stakes and are miles ahead of us in financial dominance. The fact they are signing a temperamental 19 year old (if all goes to plan) for well over £25 million just shows how silly this has got. Some sort of regulation is a must, as Blatter said once (yes he actually said something sensible), its ‘financial doping’. Cheating.
And if the rumours that Man City are in discussions with Didier Drogba’s agent are true – we may be in a little bit of trouble come next season.
The club announced today that Vuvuzela’s are banned in the stadium, the miserable gits. What is wrong with them? You are hardly going to get 60,000 people in the stadium with them are you. It’s fully understandable how people are divided over them but the fact health and safety grounds are being used as an excuse is frankly hilarious. It is to keep the corporates happy. They like their silence you see.
We all know the atmosphere can be pretty poor at times, the stewards are like little fluorescent Hitlers who think they own the place and the fact you get moaned at if you stand up all adds up to a poor atmosphere at times. Yes, there have been the occasions where the atmosphere has been top notch but anything that can improve it is fine by me. They are not all that bad.

They are wearing sports bra..LOL…

Comment: That is not true. Those things have been proven to damage one’s hearing.
your attack on the club’s officials for banning the headache inducing vuvuzelas reveals you to have little understanding of the club, its stadium or its fans. Are you even a season ticket holder? The atmosphere at the Emirates has developed over time to a perfectly acceptable level of passion and commitment. The atmosphere at some of the big European nights and other significant games have almost brought the roof off. Vuvuzelas have absolutely nothing going for them. They are one, single sound which dominates all others in the stadium, no chants can be heard, no individual words of support can be heard, no hush when a goal is conceded, no swirl of excitment as we launch an attack on the counter, the effect is a less intimate and less enjoyable experience. They do not provide music, this is no barmy army, they are akin to fog horns, drowning out all surrounding sounds with a staggeringly intrusive cacophony of sound. I have never seen the behaviour of stewards you speak of, now ever felt the atmosphere was hampered by Arsenal officials. Arsenalisation has been a fantastic concept and project of identity creation in forming a glorious edifice in which we can celebrate our beloved club, vuvuzelas are not part of that history, that culture. If I want to talk to my brother next to me, or a boy wants to explain something to his mother about the game, how would it be possible if some piece next to you is blasting out a painful, tuneless note. A very weak end to an otherwise enjoyable and informative post.
I’m sorry, but your comments on the vuvuzelas are utterly off the mark, mate. Its surprising that such stupid things will dominate the comments. But the truth is, they are loud enough to damage your hearings. There were sound monitoring tests done in S. Africa, and some were as loud as 100dB. That’s equivalent to a jackhammer. One month of that sound was ok, but having one blasted into you for an entire season, well.. get a season ticket mate.
And I hate those things. Completely destroys the atmosphere. I wanna hear the crowd go “boo”, or “YYEYYYAAAAAHHHH!!” or “Stand up if you hate the Sp*rs”. I dont fucking wanna hear “ppppeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” all the fucking time. What the fuck? How could you possibly defend these things? How can anyone? I really don’t understand. The crowd dynamic completely vanishes!
You cant let players know they have to buck up. You cant let them know when they are doing well. How does that improve the atmosphere!??!?!?!!?!?!?!? What the fuck mate?
And continuous exposure to sound levels of over just 85dB is enough to induce permanent hearing damage!
The next step should be to make possesion of a vuvuzela illegal and liable to a sentence of 10 years wathcing Spurs videos. Well done AFC.
Bset of luck to Eduardo if he goes, as seems likely. He’s a decent player and seems to be a nice guy. Hope he does well.
Sorry, but your comment on vuvuzelas is WAY off the mark. Those things are not only soul destroying, but also have been proven to be dangerous to hearing, so banning them on H&S grounds is entirely understandable.
Even if they werent dangerous, thank goodness they have been banned. The WC this summer was the most soul-less, passion-less, atmosphere-less competition in history. The games were a giant snooze, not least because of the complete and utter lack of atmosphere at EVERY game. The only noise heard was those darn vuvuzelas. A complete and utter turn-off. Nothing has ever been invented that destroys atmosphere as quickly as a vuvuzela.
Thank goodness they have been banned by Arsenal. My faith in the intelligence of our great club has been affirmed.
Good luck Dudu we’ll miss you; you were our perfect finisher until the horrific injury.
Wishing you all the best from the fans of Liberia, West Africa. Thanks for being a part of the Arsenal family. May God/Allah bless you!!
I thought Eduardo was playing a big part for us this coming season. Translation – all players are negotiable.
Please be careful about your usage of Hitler. And furthermore, as far as I know, there is nothing wrong with the stewards – they are just doing their jobs. Its the same in every fuckin’ stadium. I would much rather prefer stewards who actively do their jobs, over those who might go missing when you really need them.
You have a good blog going man, why destroy your rep with these kind of remarks?
MJ – it was a joke, no offence was intended.
Guys, on the vuvuzela’s. I think they are great and that is just my opinion. For the people saying I should get a season ticket, its just not viable financially. I wish I could but I’m a student and work at the same time, I’ll go to any games I can but at the moment a season ticket is way out the question.
The atmosphere can sometimes be great and I appreciate that.. I just like them personally. I respect your views
Well the steward in my block looks like hitler and she is a woman!!
Is Bendtner to be handed the no.9 shirt when its announced Eduardo is leaving? I think the youngsters on tour have been handed new numbers too. Eastmond can be seen wearing 25 i think, Frimpong 35 and JET 36. I know it dont always mean anything but Merida was handed no.32 a season or 2 a go and kept it. Chesney no.13?
Forget the vuvuzelas, forget the stewards… with Eduardo leaving & Simpson not leaving (on the plane to Austria)& allegedly being up for sale with only one year of his contract remaining, we are looking seriuosly short staffed in the striking department.Currently we have Bendtner carrying a long term groin injury: injury prone RVP, Vela & the new boy. This doesn’t look like a title challenging front line to me.
And not a title-winning defence as well. And if (IF!) Fabregas leaves, then a very average midfield too. Unless “Wilsheres dad” beats the shit out of Wenger and forces him to play his son every match.
Oh, and don’t forget the goalkeeping department!
For sure Sol Campbell and M.Silvester must go.They nothing in our time. This are those Players which cost us last season. Why staying with them for nothing? Let them go.It is better to sign one good player than having two who very poor in parfomance. We don’t need them if we need to win the tittle.
