Over the past month or so we have witnessed one of the most in your face campaigns of tapping up from Barcelona. Its public, against the law and disgraceful.
It is widely reported in the Spanish press (Marca, El Mundo, Sport.es) that yesterday there was a lengthy conversation between Cesc’s family (believed to be his mother and sisters) and the Barcelona president Sandro Rosell. Now, I’m not going to make any accusations that there was anything untoward going on but its not the sort of thing you want to see as an Arsenal fan.
Theres no point being patronising about how important family is to Cesc, of course it is going to be important – but seeing Barcelona getting so up close and personal with Cesc and his family is rather disconcerting. He is surrounded by lifelong friends and Barcelona players and who knows the effect that might have on him, I still feel he will stay but I’m not so confident as a few days ago before the Pique comments.
The fact remains that money talks, despite what Arsenal say every player has his price – as shown by Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Yaya Toure (220k a week he’s on). If Barcelona hit the 50 million quid mark I think Arsenal will sell. Yes, they have said they don’t have too but in all reality if he wants to go let him, if he is open to staying keep him at all costs.
Due to this conversation between Barcelona and Cesc’s relatives the Spanish media seem to take this as a sure sign that the arrival of Cesc is only a matter of time. Of course, whatever the Spanish press say is true. They never write it to unsettle players, ever, you understand.
There is also a report in the Spanish daily, Sport, that after the Spanish went through in their World Cup quarter final Arsene Wenger met with Cesc to congratulate him on the victory and check up on his shoulder injury. The boss has also met with Pep Guardiola who has kept up his appearance as actually a rather nice bloke. Cesc was not mentioned at this meeting. It is claimed that Cesc is confident a deal will materialise but from what I can tell its just paper rubbish and not worth the paper its written on.
As a fan, I just want this all over with soon. Its best for all involved too. It can’t be doing Cesc much good, Arsenal need to plan for next season whilst Ba*ca need to do the same.

I hate Barca.
If it is confirmed from Cesc that he wants to leave, he should be allowed to go. There are several replacements for him in the market and if Asenal can get 60m pounds for him, there will be a be a bigger balance after signing worthy replacement. He will however sit on the bench for most of the season as the spanish midfield is same as barcelonas. The club president may be playing politics with the signing but when it is time, he will cese will take his place on the bench. And he will regret the transfer. However, he can be having dinner with his family
IFFFF ever we sel Fab, hope it won’t happend like MU. When they sell Ronaldo for 80M, any replacement they want to buy the player club also said thier player worth 80M too.
Arsenal SO needs to keep Fabregas in the Emirates Stadium. He is one of our best STAR players. I hate Barcelona… Fabregas deserves more value from Arsenal and Barca. If he joins Barca , it’s gonna be the same scene, that he will left on the bench as he is in the Spanish National team… I mean they keep him on the bench for the whole season and play him only 2/3 games.
barca needs 2 b reported 2 FIFA & UEFA……bt den again dey r gutless bastards………
Has cesc asked for a transfer request!
Has he said he wants to leave categorically???
I also hear we are signing schwarzer. Not good enough in my opinion
There is no question in my mind that Cesc wants to leave Arsenal for Barca. However, the mucky paart of this affair is that in colusion with the Sapnish club he wants to leave without paying the going rate for a player of his stature. Fair enough he could leave for any club he choses, but wy on earth are they trying to et him at bargain basment? The answer is obviously that they think they have such an upper arm that they can bully Arsenal into submission. What with the weight of emotional and family claptrap. Arsenal should hold firm until a meaningful offer is recieved.
Cesc dreams Barca but loves Arsenal. He already has his said. Fabregas future will decide by Wenger, not himself. Yes, he request a move but i don’t think he made it all 100% of his heart. He may persuade by some Barca twats like Xavi and Pique, who consistently release their comments every week about him. The Barca president and board, plus Spanish press and media all play very significant role in influencing Fabregas decision of moving to Nou Camp. Fabregas also made different comments about his futute, with the latest claiming that he could stay at Emirates, after seeing himself benched for almost games. We knew he is a very good captain for Arsenal, but i doubt he can deal well with transfer pressure. Arsenal should keep him, at least for this season and i still believe Fabregas will do his best again for this club.
Goonertank: Yes, Schwarzer announced tomorrow, maybe with Koscielny.
It seems Cesc is off guys from what I have heard
I dont really see the problem guys. if Barca really wants him they will pay the price, if not he will stay. No one is bigger than the club, however no club would want to loose a player like cesc. Money talks, always..
Schwarzer in – Almunia out?
Eduardo in – Fabianski out?
Koscielny in – Gallas/Big Sol out?
If any of this transfer rumour is right it seems only to balance the books – that is all. I can’t help but feel underwhelmed by all this talk.
It is worrisome. I would like to feel more confident about the depth of the squad. We all know it needs greater depth and the talk at the moment does not seem to imply an endeavour towards it. All very misty and obscure.
Aww man. I was in serious agreement with you MArtin re Cesc staying.
Honestly believed he would stay.
It is such a massive loss and that is no understatement.
Alot of season ticket holders I know would not have renewed if they knew Cesc was to go.
Could have serious repercussions from some sections. People are really, really fed up with not only lack of trophies but the lack of signings and increases in the scale of personnel sold.
It’s nigh on understandable that Vieira, Pires, Henry etc go due to (perceived) age. But when the likes of Toure, Adebayor, Hleb, FLamini, Diarra and now probably Cesc it is hard to understand.
