Twisting words to suit your personal feelings towards something is a fine skill, and quite fun too.

That is why you can expect a few “Arshavin in a Barca fan”/“Shava’s off to Barca”/“Arsh in Barca plea” headlines over the coming hours.

Of course the quote in the headline is actually incorrect, its more like a paraphrase but its basically what his latest comments (via the arshavin.eu Q&A section) mean is that he supported Barcelona as a child… he likes the club and prefers them to Real Madrid – whilst later on adding he is happy at Arsenal and doesn’t see himself playing for another English club.

The question and answer directly off the site:

Hello !!!!!!!!!!! You used to say that Barcelona was your dream, but in an interview to Arsenal you said that you wanted to move to this club in particular. What should I think?

Arshavin: As a child I supported Barcelona, I do not deny that. Actually I continue to root for “Barca” in the Spanish Championship. As for the English Championship, I’ve always liked Arsenal, so when I had an opportunity to join this club, I happily agreed. So I’ve never seen myself as a player of any other English club. Again, I am a Gunner, and I am satisfied with everything.

I have to highlight that last bit because its the sort of thing someone would miss out to try and create a story. There is no story here, despite what some media organisations may try to make out.

One man I would dearly love to punch in the mouth is Spain and Barcelona uber-gobshite, Xavi. Time and time again he is mouthing off in the press about Cesc Fabregas – you almost expect a new blog to be set up detailing everything about him and Cesc with live updates…

0700: Cesc is in the loo taking a massive steaming dump. It is on its way through the Barcelona homeland sewage system as we speak

0703: I have just told Cesc to come to Barcelona

0730: Just reminded Cesc that his breakfast cereal comes from Barcelona

0745: With Gerard Pique telling Cesc to come to Barcelona

0746: Cesc has just smashed my head in screaming ‘will you shut up about Barcelona?!’ I remedied the situation by telling him that Barcelona is in his DNA and we are in-fact brothers

He really does need to shut his mouth, not only is he being used by Barcelona as a tool of tapping up – he really is annoying. This time he said…

“I would like him to come, and I have told him so. I have no doubt that Cesc would triumph at Barcelona. We set the bar very high. Everyone wants to come to Barca, and each passing year we get better. You have to play at a level which is ten out of ten. You have to play perfectly.”

Listen here, Xavi. I also have no doubt Cesc would do very well at Barca, he is better than you and your scrawny little mate thats always injured but, TOUGH! He is under contract here until 2015. Oh, and given the choice, I wouldn’t want to go and play for Barcelona.. I’d rather drown in my own spinal fluid.

Hype levels are reaching unbearable proportions with a number of people who don’t have a clue about football claiming that England are ‘bringing it home’ and ‘Rooney will win us the cup even though I don’t know who he is!!!!!!!!’. I can’t take much more of this.

I like the World Cup but I’m just not inspired by this England team, its nowhere near as good as people think. There is Rooney who could quite possibly only get one goal all tournament and other than that who will get us the goals? Lampard? Gerrard?

Lampard is worth a flutter on top English goalscorer but we just don’t have the firepower… or the defence.
