Arsenal 3-1 Birmingham: van Puuuursie continues scoring streak

Posted on October 18, 2009 by Martin @ thegoonblog.com

I’m back after a hectic week that is set to continue on Monday as I take a jaunt down to the Grove. I missed most of the game yesterday but caught the highlights in the evening and from what I saw it was a pretty decent post interlull performance.

Robin van Persie looks to be causing havoc at the moment and I would say he is in as good a form as he has ever been in his Arsenal career, its on par with the spell he had earlier on in the year when he was winning us games and keeping us in the top four single handedly. His goal was world class, his first touch was magical and the finish clinical, he has scored in his last four games now.

Minutes later Abou Diaby scored his third of the season (surprising eh?) with a thumping finish from a Thomas Rosicky pass, barely 20 minutes had past and we were two up and looking at another cricket score result.

It didn’t work out that way though, Mannone and the defence made a bit of a mess of a Brum ball in and Lee Bowyer smashed it into the back of the net, it was a messy goal to concede and we still have to eradicate that from our game, we have scored a lot of goals this season but we have been conceding a few as well.

We were in danger of conceding a leveler when Fabregas broke with the ball and fed it to Arshavin who literally just jogged into the Birmingham area and side-footed it home, it was effortless class and his 5th of the season already – and another Fabregas assist.

Historically, post European games and Interlull’s are not our strongest times, we are always a bit vulnerable but I think the growing experience in the team showed – I may be wrong and if I am please do correct me, I did only see the highlights after all.

We are on a good run at the moment and if we win our game in hand we could be only a point off the top of the table, of course Citeh have a game in hand over us but at the rate Liverpool are falling at the moment there is no need to worry about them too much.

It was a good way to get back to proper football and i think it shows how good we have been at home when its the first time this season that we haven’t scored four goals at home. This is a season I am really, really excited about and with each passing game I am getting more and more confident.

Bring on AZ midweek. Till tomorrow.
