Adebayor deal done – Wenger confirmation + Barnet thoughts
Posted on by Martin @ thegoonblog.com

Right, as for some reason my 700 word post decided to kindly delete itself when I published it I will do my best to remember what it is that I wrote.

Today the pre-season kicked off in earnest and a very unfamiliar Arsenal squad drew 2-2 with Barnet, despite being in the lead twice. both goals conceded were very, very poor and it will be an area Arsene Wenger will have his eye on as we progress onto the new season I am sure.

Overall it is very hard to judge the squad on a meaningless friendly, we did not have many of our best players in the squad, the best being Andrey Arshavin who was a handful to say the least, his goal was well taken and the run to get into the position shows that he can fill in any position in the attacking third of the field, it was an Eduardo like run, who incidentally will return to full training on Monday.

Barazite scored an absolute pearler in the second half and he will be a part of the match-day squad this coming season. His last season at derby seemed to do a lot for his game and whilst being inconsistent according to Derby fans, he has the obvious class to make it at Arsenal. He will have learned how to scrap right at the bottom of the Championship and basically, deal with a team in turmoil.

A couple of youngsters caught the eye, Sanchez Watt, who is lightening fast and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who is a well known prospect. Jack Wilshere seems to be going through a little dip at the moment and I guess it is only now we will really know what he is made of of whether he has just gone flat. He is still very, very young though.

As I said though, you can’t judge any team on this one game. It would have been nice to win it though.

Now onto the second biggest news of the day, Wenger has admitted that Adebayor is on his merry way to Man City:

“He is up at Manchester City having a medical and we will see what comes out of it. If the medical is positive and he agrees personal terms then it could happen. If the medical is positive and he agrees personal terms then it could happen.”

The guys a gonner and thank goodness its over really, his position at the club was untenable and we have picked up 25 million for him. He’s happy, we’re happy, everyone is a winner.

From what I have heard the deal is 99% done and it is just a case of dotting the I’s and crossing the t’s. There should be no other reason for the deal to be delayed.

EDIT: HE HAS GONE.

More good news is that Eduardo is back in training tomorrow and I have a sneaky suspicion that there is a chance we will see no arrival up front:

“On our side we have Thomas Rosicky back and Eduardo back on Monday in full training. We have lost a big striker but gained one offensive player and one striker.”

This is Le Boss though, we know what he is like about talking about transfers.

Right, lets hope this blog publishes this time. *crosses fingers*

Till tomorrow.
