Official: We Have Made No Arshavin Bid

Posted on January 27, 2009 by Martin @ thegoonblog.com

This transfer is going round more times than a bloody merry-go-round.

At the press conference before the Everton game tomorrow Arsene Wenger, in no uncertain terms has put us straight on the fact WE HAVE NOT MADE AN ARSHAVIN BID. In the words of the Frenchman,

“[That is] not true,” he replied. “In this job ‘far’ doesn’t mean a lot. I believe that we are not close to concluding any transfer, Arshavin or anybody else.

He then went on to have another little dig at Zenit St Petersburg,

I am only responsible for the statements we make and I cannot be responsible for the statements that other clubs make,” said the Frenchman.

“Zenit look to have different voices coming out of the club and I’m not sure if it always the official voice. I believe what I see and what I hear directly.”

How many more twists will this take? I know i have blogged many times with headlines such as ‘Arshavin deal finally done’ (that was a joke), ‘Arshavin fee agreed’ and so on but from this day, and this very moment i will only give you updates when they have been confirmed by a reliable sports network or Arsenal.com. No more of this Russian newspaper stuff.

Im fed up of this, you are probably fed up of this.

Later i will give you an Everton preview, what Arsene said regarding the Micah Richards bid and more.

‘Til Then.

WENGER YOU ARE FRUSTRATING US MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  2. Martijn Stolze says:

what you say is not true either; they made a bid, it’s not clear yet how they stand with it

  3. Toure5 says:

They haven’t made a bid, this was all bullshit from the off.
Wenger would never make a 12-15million bid for a player that is 28 in May..

  4. roger says:

i’m tired of diz transfer, can’t wait for February 2 come

  5. sameep says:

How can AW say we havn’t made a bid, when Hill-Wood was saying the other day that we won’t go beyond our latest bid????
What does that mean?? WE ARE NOT GOING FURTHER THAN THE BID THAT WE DIDN’T MAKE!!
    HAHAHAHA!!!!
    please somebody explain me!!

  6. dan says:

we have made 2 bids for him…wenger said nothing like we havent made a bid…he simply said we havent agreed a fee..we are being held up by the bonus of 5 million euros that he received when he signed a contract with zenit in 2006, zenit want him to repay 2.5mil and he wants us to pay it…It is basically zenit have found a way to make the player look bad and squeeze as much money out of the deal as possible…they dont care whether arshavin or arsenal pay the 2.5million as it will raise the fee received eventually to 17m…its just all fucking me off now…just get the transfer done otherwise many fansare going to be left frustrated with the i am happy with what we have routine…

  7. zigzag says:

for gods sake wenger…you have to sign someone
have you seen how bad our team is???….fuck the transfer policy we want silverware and we want it this season. i love you arsene but this is critical and arshavins better than nobody

  8. marcus says:

    YOU ARE INCORRECT.

Wenger responded to a question about Zenit’s claim that the two clubs had agreed on a fee.

Wenger said NO, it is not true that the clubs have agreed on a fee. That’s very different from saying Arsenal have not put in a bid for the player.

Very very lazy reporting on your part.

It’s clear that ZENIT are dragging this out, making contradictory statements, now publicly blaming the player. It’s been their intention all along to drag this out because they’ve been angry at Arshavin ever since he first made it clear to them last year that he wanted to play in a big european league before he gets any older. Barca and Spurs tried for him in the summer and they eventually backed out because they too were finding the negotiations far too protracted and confusing. Zenit are playing games, moving the goalposts. They don’t need the money, this has never been about money. They would’ve done this with any other club, even if they’d offered 40m, let alone 20m. It’s about Zenit’s desire to make it extremely difficult if not impossible for Arshavin to leave. I remain unconvinced that they are even willing to sell. I do not believe that they entered into this negotiation process with a good faith willingness to sell the player.
