Matuidi Could Be Our Defensive Midfielder After Wenger Interest – Arshavin View

Posted on January 09, 2009 by goonblogger

Morning all!

Right, im going to risk embarassment now and state that i think Andei Arshavin will be an Arsenal player by the time the January transfer window is closed.

There seems to be a divide amongst Gooners as to whether we actually need him but in my opinion, it can’t hurt to have a wealth of class in the attack.

Now, i have shouted and shouted for a defensive midfielder, i think it would solve a hell of a lot of our defensive problems and we have been linked with French midfielder Blaise Matuidi who plays for St-Etienne. He would be a typical Wenger signing, he is not a high profile player and is valued in the £8 million region, and with St-Etienne lounging in 17th place in the French league he could well be looking for a way out. He has said,

“An opportunity to join them is not something ordinary. It gives you great self-esteem – it is Arsenal.”

It looks like that if an offer was accepted he would me more than willing to move, whilst Wenger has been interested and in August it was confirmed he did enquire about the player. But such is the classiness of this club, and not like dirt such as Man Utd, Real Madrid, Barca, AC & Inter and Chelsea, to name but a few, they respected St-Etienne’s wishes and made no offer as the player was not for sale. We didn’t use bully boy tactics like those other slimeballs such as the Calderon’s and Kenyon’s of this world,

“Wenger called me at the end of August to ask if Blaise was for sale. He didn’t make an offer as Blaise was not for sale.”

This also says that Wenger really did scour the place for a defensive midfielder, he knows that we have a problem there and i am 99% sure he is going to deal with it this transfer window.

Ahead of our meeting with the long ball metchants Bolton at the weekend, Gary Megson has had a dig at our manager. He said,

‘Whenever we play Arsenal, it always seems to be overshadowed by an incident, which is usually a tackle”

Which usually nearly breaks our players leg. Anyway continue Gary..

‘My players call it “in yer face” football

I call it assault. Anyway Gary…

“and, yes, we try to get in everybody’s face, but always in a fair manner.”

‘Kevin Davies is the most fouled player in the Premier League and there are a few in the top four with worse disciplinary records.”

No there is no player with a worse disciplinary record over the past few seasons than that ol’ cheat ‘warrior’ Kevin Davies.

The past two or three seasons he has been the player that has committed the most fouls in the Premiership. Finished yet Gary? Oh no!

‘there was a complete furore about the legality of Kevin Davies’ tackle on Clichy.

‘Yes, it was a firm challenge, and, yes, he had to slide in to get it, but his momentum carried through and caught Clichy.”

And nearly buggered his leg in the process but thats just ‘getting in yer’ face isnt it Gary?

Finally, this has been brought to my attention.

This article is about how Defoe was accompanied by his mum to meetings with Tottenham when they were tying up the move from Pompey, and also the switch the other way a year previous.

Basically, this is against FA rules if the person accompanying the player is not registered with the FA. That doesn’t mean they have to be an agent, it just means the FA have to be aware they are going to be there and therefore have to ‘register’ with them. I don’t know what that entails.

She was not registered with the FA, rendering her presence illegal, and the transfer null and void.

But, ironically as it centers around an English International it will probably be brushed under the carpet and ignored. The Paper wrote in the penultimate paragraph,

“The FA are likely to turn a blind eye”

Doesn’t this just sum the waste of space association up?

Typical.

Post the link to that article around, raise awareness. Lets see what happens.

Anyway, til tomorrow goons.

There also seems to be a divide amongst us whether the transfer window is opened. I say it definitely is, you say it hasn’t happened yet!
Or, if I take it you mean next year’s transfer window then I say I hope so but I wished we sign him now – or even in the summer. Lol

  2. ryan says:

if we bought arshavin AND matuidi i would jump for fucking joy. never seen matuidi but i have faith if we tyry to buy him he’s good and must be better defensively than what we have in dm.

  3. John T says:

Gosh i hope you’re right …. our defense had been kinda sucky over recent seasons. Think wse don’t really need a striker … but a dm and another reliable cb …. sigh i miss Tony =( .. gone are the days of 1-0 to the arsenal

oops typo! was supposed to say closed!

  5. Odu says:

Fans will be greatly disappointed if the coach doesnt sign any player at the close of the transfer window considering the situation now.

We can as well forget Europe next year if nothing is done during this window.

  6. Fatbregas says:

All this time we were talking about buying ‘who’ and ‘whom’. Questioning Arsene wisdom of buying….

Lets be more realistic and economic minded and discuss about what can we achive this season, what budget is suitable.

If the more appropriate target for us is to be in top 4, what should we do? Can we break the bank (buying those ‘overpriced’ stars) and get us the league champion??? We been points behind (not saying a 8 point gap is imposible to chase) and current leaders have better chances to win it as their manpower is sufficient and key player is healthy (Stevie G, Rooney, Lampard. Ronaldo….etc) History told us that money cant buy champion, look at chelsea and Real Madrid for pass few years. Only teams of good players gel up well, plus a few key player(provided they all healthy most of the time)
    , champion is posible.

    Almunia

    Sagna Gallas/Djourou Toure Clichy

    Wallcot Denilson Fabregas Rosicky/Nasri

    RVP Ade

Pls be reminded that we have Eduardo, vela, wilshere, ramsey, all on the bench!!!!!
If this team is healthy, are they scary??????
Ofcoz there is weakness perhaps no much cover at DM (Denilson is not my favourate at DM, juz forcing Cesc to be more defensive, sacrifice his talent. Realy miss Flamini)

Above lineup will only appear in our dream this year.
The main task now is to secure our top 4 spot to qualify for CL, to save our ass in Premier League. This is for the next year, our future.

Imho, getting a tenacious/holding midfield/DM in the form of parker, Veloso, alonso, Matuidi(maybe), is more realistic.
Adding a experienced defender (we have one in silvestre, yeh!!!) is also a more appropriate stuff (none of the rumours are realy about this sadly).

Arshavin is good, for now if the price is right….. Not sure if he is able to adapt so fast and make an impact asap. Next question is where to place him if every one return next season. Who to give way??? RVP??? Or Nasri? Wallcot????
    We don nid a 20 mil subsitute……

I wouldnt be suprise to see Arsene buying none this time.
Btw, hopefully Arsharvin will be landed, with a good price.
