A miserable couple of weeks for Arsenal fans was banished after a performance that defied the critics and some fans beliefs, and in some style against the defending champions.
We were very nervy at the start, shown by the backpass mistake that gave United a freekick in a fairly dangerous position in the penalty area, luckily we escaped without being behind.
Clichy hit a quite brilliant cross onto the head of Bendtner who got the placement but the height of the cross was difficult for him to control and our first chance had come and gone.
The game was open and both teams looked like scoring, Diaby had a shot cleared and the midfield was holding its own. Fabregas was not fantastic but you still felt that he could provide the killer ball when needed.
Nasri then put us in front, after some good work he powered a left footed shot from the edge of the box that took a deflection on the way in. Who cares, we are beating Manchester United. A team that was expected to pound us.
Manchester Utd responded by cranking up the pressure but the defence held on and looked the best it has done this season.
We then struck a massive blow after half-time. Nasri scored a fantastic goal, a bullet. Fabregas was the man that sent him through and the finish was spectacular, this kid is the real business, its his 4th or 5th goal of the season. Against Fenerbache he was awful but here he showed why Arsene paid out 12 odd million for him. This was me after it went in.
“YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
YOU BEAUTYYYYYYYYY!!”
Van Der Sar didnt stand a cat in hells chance of saving it, and at 21, he is only going to get better.
I really thought we needed 3 to guarantee the result after the Tottenham capitulation. I was reassured that our backline was holding firm and the awesome crowd was roaring on the players, even though as the minutes ticked by the crowd was getting more and more nervous. I was too.
Any other team would have had the ball by the corner flag, i was shouting at them to stick it in the corner but they will never listen. Luckily we didnt have too many players forward. There was maturity, there was experience and it showed, it was a fantastic result.
I was thinking that up until the stunning Rafael goal, even i admit that it was fantastic, he is going to be a fantastic player for the Mancs.
They were nerve racking moments, Howard Webb was doing his utmost to help United, Ronaldo was not even booked for a blatant handball and he managed to find 6 minutes stoppage time from somewhere.
Fabianski looked very assured in goal when he came on, Almunia took a very nasty knock and hope he is ok, he stuck his head on the line to keep Man Utd out.
I just have to show you this picture, it looks like Park is trying to Kung-Fu Silvestre’s head off, it was a very very good performance by the broken nosed Frenchman. Gallas was also very good.
This performance has sent out a message, Arsenal are not dead, we are alive and we want to win the league, even i have said in previous posts we do not stand a chance if things were carrying on like they were. We have to build on this, we cant afford to drop many more points. 6 points behind is managable.
